Hi Everybody!
I only just joined and thought I'd let you know I've designed a stripboard layout for the whacky, zany, weird sound generator using Lochmaster. I've built and tested it and it works great. It also includes the second channel. If anyone would like me to submit it just let me know.
I'm thinking of doing the SoundLab next.

1st and foremost, welcome to the EM forum! :)

2ndly, YES PLEASE!!! Please post it and thanks :))) Not all of us have laserprinters yet :(

btw, have you told Ray about your layout too? I reckon that he would be thrilled to put your stripboard design on his website.

Any chance of a SoundLab stripboard version too? Only kidding! hehehe

That's what I meant when I said the Sound Lab is my next project. I'm not kidding!!
I'll probably do separate boards which make up a Sound lab or parts of it. I have a 1year old baby girl starting to get around the house so chemicals are kind of out of the question for a while. I love the challenge of stripboard design anyway. Here's a preliminary pic of the board. You'll need a parts listing to get it finished. I'll follow up with that ASAP. How do I let Ray know about it? Does he look at this forum often? I'll check for an e-mail address on his site.

Here's an x-ray copperside cutting guide. Yellow=cut. Grey=solder point.
Oh, and a rough parts list. My designators aren't exactly the same as the original schem so check this. I'll fix that later.
See ya

Hey Uncle-krunkus (great name btw!)

Don't let that put you off. My daughter is now 2 years old, and I teach her what I'm doing- she seems to take it all in. You'll just find that it becomes one heck of a lot more difficult to get on with anything :(

I'm quite impressed with the quality of your drawings. Are you using any help to do these layouts (ie computer) or have you just designed them for the occasion?

I've done a few things on stripboard, but they have all tended to be very basic- there are always too many distractions! Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could get a layout designer which you put in the schematic and the computer works out where to put the components/holes etc?!

I'm thinking about getting a PC because there is so little stuff like PCB designing software for the Mac.

Is there any demand for a simple stripboard designing application?

Yes! I would think so!! (on the Mac too??). Stripboard is so much cheaper than PCB's. So it's far better suited to students and hobbyists. PCB's are better, but are a bit of a faff to put together.

Are you a C++ programmer? I have real trouble remembering strings of numbers so my dreams of becoming a programmer are already dashed :(

I would program it in Real Basic so that it runs on ALL common platforms- windows, MacOS, Linux.

I'll give it some design thought, and perhaps you'll beta test it in a month?

Here is a quick design idea in Paint:

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

We'll just have to see if I complete it, got plenty of time before college. Smile

Here is a list of OS's that Real basic can compile to:

Windows 98/NT/ME/2000/XP
Mac OS X and Classic Mac OS X
Any Linux x86 distribution that provides GTK+ 2.0 (or higher),
Glibc-2.3 (or higher) and CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System).

Yeah It would (mean more work), but if you pulled it off, you could sell it for 10 quid for eg. That would help towards the dreaded student loan.

I once downloaded 'RealBasic'. "RealComplicated" more like! :D

Heh, lochmaster will do then. Razz

But i'll think about this auto-layout generator. First problem would be reading from a schematic, as these tend to be image files.

No, no. you wouldn't have to do that. Just feed the circuit in- drawing by hand. hmmmm actually it would be difficult because of all the different sizes of the components- yes a lot of work.....

Obviously, i'd stick to all the components that ADHDboy ever uses in his stuff, like the common op-amps and capacitors. And extra components would become available on demand. The key is making the program modular, so I can easily add components.

Ever since i've started to build my analogue modular synth, I've been a real big fan of modular design! Very Happy

Had a little trouble finding a US supplier of stripboard, but finally tracked some down from All Electronics:

http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=455&item=ECS-4&type=store

$5.50@, looks like two of uncle krunks layouts would fit on one. they do add a $6 handling fee, but that give me a good excuse to stock up on some other goodies...

The pots I use are 38p:

38p Pots.

The shaft length is perfect for mounting though a panel and putting a knob on the otherside, as shown on my modular synth project:
