Oberheim type sounds on Nord synths? |
 |
|
Are any of the Nord synth like the 2x capable to reproducing sounds close to Oberheim type sounds?
Also, any suggestions on analog filter type pedals or boxes to provide some warmth for Nord synths? |

Which 2X are you referring to: Lead2X or Modular2X?
(I don't want to leave you here swimming in a general discussion forum )

First about emulate the Oberheim on the NL2X...
Surely something can be done, although I never tried it. It could come close, but keep in mind things are always different in every synthesizer, mostly the Filter. To which Oberheim are you reffering?
Secondly: warmth to your digital synth...
Try these two threads:

and read these and make up your mind and start asking and experimenting

For almost the last ten years, I've been caught in the "digital" age with keyboards and modules, and frankly have gotten tired of them because they all sound the same to me. So, I'm slowing trying to get back into analog synth so I can create and tweak sounds that have a "warmth" to them. I can afford an Omega 8 synth right now, so I was just trying to find a way to emulate Oberheim OB-8, OB-Xa, etc., pads, strings, etc., from a Nord Lead 2x or another Nord synth if possible. I heard that the Studio Electronics Modmax pedal http://www.studioelectronics.com/products_ModMaxPedals.php#1 has the Oberheim filter in it, so I may get it and try running the Nord Lead 2x through to see how it sounds and reacts.
Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I don't know these pedals, but I'm sure the knobs will look the same as on the Nord
Seriously, I think these are very interesting effects, but I wonder if they are made to be used with synthesizers. The RingMod looks attractive to me be connercted with my electric bass...
I want to check these things out next Frankfurt, if possible.

I don´t recognize a Oberheim sound when I hear it. But among my digital synths (Clavia, Korg, Roland, Alesis) is there one that has the best moog sound I have heard from the digital world. It is a cheap and small Alesis Micron. And I do have a real analog Moog Voyager to compare with. The Micron also has a dedicated Oberheim filter clone inside. (I guess you find the same on a Alesis Ion, as they share the sound engine.) So it may be the answer to a Oberheim sound without an Oberheim.
