newbee: want to start with building a 'function generator' |
 |
|
hi,
I'm new to the forum and new to the DIY
I just finished my first guitar stomp box - and it's working
I'd like to give the SoundLab a shot
but I think it's better I first try to build a 'function generator'
but I can't find a stripboard layout anywere
anybody have an idea where to look ?
thanks in advance,
Tim |

thanks for the reply Tom
I was planning to take a shot at the SoundLab
but since I think it might be just a bit to hard for me
I was planning to start with building just a simple sound-device
and when I understand how that works - I'll start with the SoundLab |

Hi Tim and welcome.
isin´t "function generator" just a oscillator whit multiple wave shape outputs ?
well then i advise you to start whit this VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator)
it´s not on stripboard but it has PCB-layout and if you are going to advance and build Sound Lab, then you would know how to make those PCB´s. and you could hook the VCO whit your Sound Lab...
but for a starter i would recommend the WSG (Wierd Sound Generator) as v-un-v did. it´s easy and fast to build and its just great
and for PCB making read this thread :
easy PCB making

Hi Tim,
Any which way you decide to go should be fine.
The Soundlab is actually not as hard as it looks.
Remember, building the board (either PCB or Stripboard) is less than half the job. The thing which I recommend you put some thought into is the box you put it in. Mounting and wiring all the front panel bits is a big job, and the place you're most likely to make a mistake. Planning this bit will make everything else much smoother. Check out the front panel designs on Ray's site. Print some off (clear stick on bubble jet sheet is a handy thing!) and get to know where's what before you do anything else.
If you have any hassles at all, just post a question on here. I think I speak for all the usual suspects when I say we'll be glad to help out. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

thanks for the replies so for
so I'm staring at the StripBoard Lay-out (http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/YOUR_FIRST_SYNTH/YOUR_FIRST_SYNTH.html)
and looking over the components lists (Andrew Sharp)
but seems the potmeters aren't in the list
anything else that's missing from that list ? |

Hey Tim,
sorry I left the pots off that list, mainly because it's just to clarify the identifiers for the stripboard layout. Everything else is there. So, off board you'll need to add 7*1M pots, 2*100K pots, & 2 spst switches. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |
