Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how I can use two patches at once in the G2 - on two tracks in Cubase SX? The multitimbral bit in the manual is only a paragraph long. I just want to be able to play and record MIDI for more than one patch in Cubase.

Cheers!

Use the performance mode and load the patches that you want to use into slots A, B, C and D. Then create 4 midi tracks in Cubase - one for midi channel 1 (slot A), one for midi channel 2 (slot B), one for midi channel 3 (lot C) and one for midi channel 4 (slot D). I hope this helps.

ok, I choose "new performance" from the menu and the editor initializes. Then I choose a couple of .pch patches I like and load them into slot A and B respectively. I notice the perf light is no longer blue when I load these patches in. In Cubase it's only playing the patch in slot A across all midi tracks. Any ideas?

From the file menu you can select load into slot, that will leave performance mode on. Alternatively you can set back performance mode manually by shift or control clicking the perf button in the editor.

When you are in performance mode, you can use the editor to load the patches to the slots the way BlueHell has described or, if you have got the keyboard version and do not currently work with the editor, hold down the A keys, select a patch and then release the A key, do the same with the B key and so on. In the end save the performance.

Erm... I've got two patches loaded into the slots but they're both playing at the same time. I need some way to tell each patch to transmit on a specific midi channel (I think) but I'm not sure if I should be doing this in Cubase or the editor?

By default, slot A is always adressed by the MIDI channel 1; slot B by channel 2 a.s.o. So if you have not changed these default settings of the G2, I guess that you have not chosen the right MIDI channels in Cubase. I have not worked with Cubase for years and do not have a copy of it, but there will certainly be a way to select the MIDI channel of a track in Cubase. A MIDI track might be set to "ALL" channels by default - if you choose 1 instead, only slot A of the G2 will be addressed.

I'll have to fiddle around a bit more I think. I can control the patch in slot A fine and it transmits to midi channel 1. Slot B is not transmitting though on channel 2 and I've checked volumes and midi messages are getting through to Cubase when I strike a key - just no sound at the mo.

one point to remember -patch volume is stored on a per variation level, and not globally across all variations, meaning if you alter volume in one variation it will not affect any other variations.

solution
- leave your volume at full (or equal) for all variations.
- don't use MIDI CC7 volume to control volume of the patches in your performance (since it affects the patch volume which will jump as you change variations).
- instead use a different midi cc (midi cc receive) and wire it to control the volume using a pair of multipliers of your final mix(es) (before going to the outputs).

This way, when a variation changes, the volume of each patch will not be affected since the midi cc recieve module outputs the last recieved CC regarless of which variation you are using.

This thread talks more about it too

Cracked it guys! Thanks. I opened to slot A as BlueHell described but also had to change the midi channels in the G2 synth settings which were a bit higgledy piggledy. Wink
