Do you by chance have a component side drawing? |

3080 though, but I could always put a 13700 on a protoboard beside.
Any BOM? panel wiring diagram? |
Has to be a 3080, have a read of the notes.
Thanks Forbin
I tried to lay this out a while ago but found it very tricky. now I don't have to |

Hi:
Thank a lot for the layout!!!
Can I use a 2SA798 instead the SSM2220? _________________ Sebo

i very much doubt i'll be unhappy with them ian
hopefully i will have them all going tonight too as i just got my shipment of 10turn pots
comment was more in reference to having a wide selection of TZ modules instead of putting all eggs in one basket, no reference to singular qualitative preference _________________ problemchild

Very cool, Forbin! I built a pair of these VCOs many moons ago and love them. |

Wow, this is totally cool! I've always wanted to build the EN tzo! Thanks Forbin for doing this layout! It looks like a very nicely done PCB. Has anone put it together yet? I have all the semi's, and am just wondering how it sounds! If anyone has it running, PLEASE post a few sound clips. Once I get one (or two, or four!) running, I will do the same.

Looks to me like OTA-1 does not need to be a 3080. OTA-2 does need to be a 3080, because it uses the the special W. Jung trick. You could replace the VCA with a 13700-based one.

True Ian -- i did contemplate quite a few changes -- especially making the integrator and the sine converter an LM13700. It does make the PCB a bit more of a nightmare! With 3080's still being a few dollars from Futurlec I decided to keep it faithfull to the original... Now having built it... and debugged my stuff ups in laying it out... I would not really change that much! |

Ian what is the W. Jung trick? I see in the schematics other use for the negative supply. In which Jung book or where is explained it? |

I think it was in the Unique IC OpAmp Applications. A colleague had all of these and I have a very vague recollection of reading a bit of it years ago. See: http://waltjung.org/Walts_Books.html Unfortunately for me he is on the other side of the world these days...
The technique was also used in another free electronotes, number 72, the Timbre Modulator. See: http://electronotes.netfirms.com/EN72TM.pdf
The EN#72 article alludes to a more detailed analysis of the 3080 supply control techniques in EN#63 -- which I have never read, but Bernie may well be willing to make it available... |

The posted layout is fixed. I moved a couple of bits slightly as well as i found some tracks a little bit too close to each other. If you look at the photo on the blog and the layout on the PDF file i think that you will notice the slight changes in a couple of the IC's... Certainly a lot less painful layout than the 921B... my work colleague keeps suggesting 4 layers! which is fine for BGA's but a complete cop-out for through hole! |

Personally, with the amount of blood, sweat and tears that went into the R&D of the Teezer, I would suggest that it would be 100 (if not more?)-fold, better bet, to invest in Ian's design?
Forgot to add, thx for the PCB anyway Forbin, it's always nice to see new projects!

Etched a board tonight and the sizing came out wrong for me. I think the pcb layout needs to be a bit larger to accommodate the ICs and resistors better. Also, the spacing between the ground plane and traces could be a bit wider.
I'll let you know how it goes when I finish this tomorrow. _________________ Youtube!

Why don't you send a PNG file instead? TIFF's are huge, but sending a gif is causing problems too (because if you say that the dimensions of a TIFF are going to be 2cm x 3cm, that's what you will get!)
On the other hand, a PNG works more like a Jpeg, in that it is a compressed format, but it retains many of the characteristics that a TIFF would retain (including no artefacts), yet is much smaller.
You could also send a DXF/DWG file, but the best kind of information is vector-based, because of there being a mathematical relation between points (vectors), so in theory, you should get the correct result every time. At the end of the day, a vector is best, because there is no pixelation of the image, just nice solid black lines.
I really don't get why people don't use PNG files more often. I've heard that the ONLY browser not to support PNG has been Internet Explorer, but then times have changed quite a lot since then, and Microsoft now, are even condemning Flash! I've never had a problem with PNG, and use it all the time. _________________ ACHTUNG!
