I don't have one-- I don't really know anything about PIC programming. I've just been seeing a lot of really great PIC based modules lately-- like the tap tempo LFO, dividers and multipliers, and quantizers.

I figured someone must be designing a PIC based Pitch Detector/Follower. This seems to be something that's just too difficult or problematic to do with analog circuits-- but might be easy to do with a PIC chip.
Isn't there someone here who wants to design a Pitch to Voltage module?

I think you need a decent fundamental extractor at the front end, certainly for guitar otherwise it's a complete waste of time. Howard Davis of Electroharmonix probably designed the best one.

i havent looked at the code yet, but all youd have to add is a DAC of some kind and some code to output that voltage... seems like most of the heavy lifting is done though.

As I said, you must have a decent funamental extractor, and it also helps to compress the input signal.

Would the hardware need to be that much different from the pitch to midi converter in the october 2009 issue of Everyday Practical Electronics? Basically "just" other code, right?

This is it; I think this is perfect.
