Thanks for the links; I will check them out. It would be great to have midi from the arduino be available to the computer with a virtual cable.

Well, today I gave the hairless serial to midi bridge a test run. Here's what I did:
(1) I took my arduino arpeggiator test-of-concept program,
(2) tweaked it so it only used Serial0 of the 4-port 2560 Arduino Mega, and
(3) piped it into a softsynth (Proteus VX) using midiyoke.
It worked as expected.

Some observations, so far:
(1) I am running serial midi at 115200 baud
(2) The software seems only to be set up for Serial0.
(3) It is cool to be able to send midi data directly to softsynths from the arduino directly via the built-in usb port.
(4) Occasionally the data stutters. It seemed to happen when something graphical was happening in an internet browser, but that could be coincidental.
(5) The site says it is a serial to midi bridge for microprocessors like the arduino, implying it might work for others as well.
