| funnily enough I was just listening to Aoki Takamasa's stunning album 'indigo rose', which although not utterly minimalist en masse is smothered with wonderful microbeats and glitches. Best glitch/micro-edit album I've heard for some time. |

| I remember hearing some songs by Aoka Takamasa and really liking them. I can't remember what label it is, though.... Thanks for mentioning. I've been looking for some new music. |

Too many genre's!
Oddly - I saw microbeat and hadn't thought microsound at all - for some reason I was thinking more along the techno lines where it's been stripped down, but the beats are still quick - lots of taps, ticks, lots of internal delays on some drum sounds, etc... - although now that you've (kassen) put it so nicely - yeah - I can see the connection. Very nicely written.
I have quite a few minimal/microsound/etc...albums - both from the minimalist to such an extreme ( Richard Chartier's Series for example... on the LINE label (sub of 12k)) to the nice staticy ambience of shuttle358 (on 12k and Mille Plateaux) or projects on The Foundry label to the glitchier/clicks n cuts stuff which Mille Plateaux characterized with their compilations to the more structural bits from Tetsu Inoue, etc... There's so much overlap between these artists and various other genres it's hard to really pinpoint what's an idm track vs. a microsomething track (not that I really care...) and many of the artists range widely in the type of music they do from album to album - which I think is great, of course. |

Thanks for all the replies.
I listened to some music, Takamasa and some "buyers of this also like that" music from the site I found those snippets on.
I'm currently playing some old Soviet France stuff in y car (*1), which is said to be industrial by some. There seems to be a conection between these types of music, to my ears there is.
I liked the Takamasa examples BTW, the other examples on the site seemed less interesting to me although I discovered some nice crossovers with hip hop like music.
And Kas I'd certainly want to have a glimpse at the book you mentioned, it can wait though till we meet some day.
Jan.
(*1) Brigit, who borrowed my car for a few days during my holiday turned off the Soviet France stuff, she got too worried she said something was wrong with the car engine :-) |

| I listen to music generally fairly quietly in my cube at work... when people stop in the usually don't notice the music is on (it's close to me) - and then every once in a while someone will notice some strange sound and say something like - hey, your computer is making funny noises... |

At my first job, I was listening to Autechre's EP7 album through headphones, and I heard my boss come in and say to everyone, "What's that noise? It sounds like a fax machine or something." |
