Brain chip midi controller |

Since Elon Musk said his neuralink coud stream music directly into your brain, I thought;
Why not the oppositte? Stream music from your brain nto a midi controller?
My idea is to use 16 binary outputs from the chip input to trigger the 16 channels. Additionally you'd use 16 + other 16 analog outputs to send information about the note (12 range parts) and the octave (10 range parts)
I know this is possible because of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSKBtEBRWi4
What are your thoughts? What software/hardware woud you need to transform the brain signal to a midi signal?
A new era of electronic music production is ahead of us, and it would a good thing to develop this idea in the mean time. Last edited by Elflimo on Mon Apr 25, 2022 2:45 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I don't think it is very practical, at least not with current technology.
With some training you might get it to the point where you could create a signal to somewhat control a parameter
but it would likely involve a lot of concentration and not really have much pratical use.
Or you could translate brainwaves into something musical similar to what you can do with a midi sprout
but that's more of a fun gimmick than anything else.
I believe we are still pretty far away from being able to think up a melody and convert it to midi or something
practical like that.
also I have no idea what video you are talking about but here is some mind midi control: https://www.midi.org/midi-articles/mind-to-midi _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"

Why do you think it is not practical? 🤔
Sorry, i forgot to put the video, i edited it in. Check it out, i think it'll make you reconsider this. |

The system showed in the video is not realy a brain-computer interface, this one makes use of so-called EMG (ElectroMyoGraphy) and just the fact that it may function sub-consious after a long periode of training doesn’t make it a brain computer interface.
In fact, it’s something I made years ago for a museum years and years ago where by flexing one’s muscles a sound was heard.
I did this by measuring EMG at two places (left and right arm), amplifying it, then rectifying it and after some filtering the signals were converted to midi in such a way that the amplitude of one arm controlled pitch and the other the type of instrument.
Some time ago I was pointed towards an article that a person took skincells from his own arm, cultivated them on a glass plate with electrodes in umeter scale under a fluid with nutrients for the cells.
With this dish activity of single cells could be measured as well as interaction between the cells.
It is well known that even this small (a few thousand) amount of cells can “learn” when activated.
The group of ppl around this researcher built a device where this cell culture was activated by music and they were taught to play along.
Alas, after searching I was unable to find this again. _________________ my synth |

you almost had it (at least I think this is what you mean): cellF. _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"
