started picking up an old hobby again - wave claying

that is .. throw stuff into a wave editor and a multi track thing .. or audio work station if you like ... and then manipulate stuff .. till I'm happy with it .. or not .. but it will not end up here then Laughing

Anyway .. the first one ...

And another one i did this week

The Dual State is a book written by Ernst Fraenkel, you can read it at https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.13142 - I've used a speech synth to read fragments of it .. or you can buy cit as a pocket .. for a fokking 50 doillars or so Shocked [and even the e-version rips you off]

Anyway, the dual state was written in Germany during the NDSAP time, and it will tel you how that worked, then. The parallels to modern times are not hard to figure out.

Resist! Melt ICE! fuck Trump! use your 2nd amendment rights - now! while you still have them. Be woke Evil or Very Mad

Also see : https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/476702/minnesota-minneapolis-ice-ethics-how-to-help

Other speech fragmenst are recorded from short wave radio from when yougoslavia freed itself from their party leader - I happened to be listening then o_o and recording o_O

The rest mostly is artefacts from those two recordings using fx in the wave editor .. but there was another recording i had made of some football match .. probaly eu or world championship .. which had been processed in itself before.

Listening to the first one here. Sounding great! So is this essentially what is called Automation these days? Lots of edits and manipulations to a recording? Back in the CoolEdit days I would do something like that to audio files while also adding effects and basically transforming a sound beyond recognition. Very fun to do and one of those things which you couldn't do without a computer. Smile

Thanks Rob Very Happy

I used to do it in the cool edit days too, now with reaper and acoustica.

But eh .. I used to be inspired to this sort of thing by the tape editing stuff that was done before people used computers .. luckily it nowadays is way more flexible and faster .. with lots more easily accesible effects to use Exclamation

With cooledit there was a lot more waiting involved ...

I don't know about that automation thing .. there is not much automated anyway .. but well .. words Laughing

Ah yes tape splicing... Technically that is similar but with the amount of copy/paste and other changes and effects I did, this is isn't possible in practice methinks... I have a huge respect for the people behind that stuff anyway, and perhaps I'm underestimating them. I certainly couldn't do it, even if I had the time.

Automation is just writing in parameter changes over time with lines and curves. CEP could do it with some of the effects, like the pitch bend and a couple of others, one being some sort of a filter I think.

ah ok .. automation .. i used volume curves Smile

What i could use is automation automation then ... something to generate automation curves ... like .. say .. i would like some stuttering .. but regular .. as in .. a volume dip say .. every 250 ms .. for 10 ms ...or gliding from 10ms dips to 50 ms dips .. over like 3 minutes .. to make stuff like that is a bloody lot of work manually Shocked

There may be VST stuff able to do it? Wren could do it .. were it a VST ...

I have two such VSTs...

https://www.cableguys.com/shaperbox

https://deviousmachines.com/product/infiltrator/

They like to sync to a tempo so Acoustica can be a problem for them some times... it doesn't give tempo to the plugins. Perhaps that's been fixed I dunno. You can decouple them both from tempo or course. When I get a chance I'll check if they work in Acoustica. Of course, some of your finer points may not be doable even in those plugins...

They do the same thing but are quite different. Definitely more than what I could cobble together myself in Max or other modular sandboxes.

Edit: just remembered... Reaper has LFOs and envelope followers which you can point to any parameter in a VST. This is found on the track header thing, where the volume and record buttons are to the left of the audio file - there's a little button saying "Trim" - click on it and all the parameters available will come up in a list - sometimes thousands of them, depending on the VST. Laughing

I listened to most of the first one and I'll finish it later. Great stuff, Jan. Keep at it. Good stuff to restart channel 6, IMHO.

Cool thank you Howard .. but let me first bring it .. erm .. over the top Laughing .. sorry .. need more practice ..

btw .. a while ago you mentioned some chop-up tool .. I forgot what that was, but it may in fact be very usable for this .. some standalone thing .. a graphix front-end on some tool kit ... like that Rolling Eyes

That one seems usable in both reaper and acoustica, thanks Cool

It is a bit .. speedy all .. but on stretching things it can do nice stuff too .. that limit of 32 bars .. it is so .. short Cool

it works fine in 'free-mode' or what's it called in acoustica.

The other one, infiltrator, saw a very nice demo of it from beardyman I think .. could not figure out how long that lfo shape can be, seemed to be 16 bars max .. and that is very very short Evil or Very Mad will look further later on.

I finished the first one and listened to the second.

I like the voice in the second and the contrasting sounds. The cut up words remind me of the Beat Poets. To do what you have done with magnetic tape would have taken a very long time. I think there is a "message", but I can't articulate what it is. I do receive emotion that I can't describe, but it is certainly an expression of how we feel now.

Infiltrator goes to 128 bars max. Very Happy

...or 0.01 hz if you switch off the tempo sync. But some times even that isn't enough. Laughing

It also has handy Macro features where you can assign parameters to morph Nord style. Makes automation easier.

Very nice results you got with Shaperbox. Smile

I use both of them to make just about anything into drum sounds - I can have a field recording and have them chop and envelope and pitch shift and resample and so on until I get a long string of nice variations to sample or just use directly. I used to use the Machinedrum for that but this is a lot more flexible. Smile

Thank you Howard and Rob,

and it is good to know about Infiltrator Smile

I've BTW started to use Wren as a delay thing with effects .. further testing and such will have to wait a bit now.

Edit: and some more test stuff Cool

But for now, more claying - a short one, 15 minutes Cool

This started it's life as 'elephant talk' .. 'correction, i'm not free' seemed more appropriate .. but that's the 'why' of the image.

It has samples from the first period mr. trump was in charge over the u.s. of a, but not absolutely so, yet .. anyway .. samples .. amongst which some nonsense uttered by his surroundings, a military band playing for eternal glory.

And then some fresh beeps that i generated from a single sine tone {wavipulations of the sine, so to say}.

And the elephant is still there of course, it is everywhere .. in fact Rolling Eyes
