ClamXav is a free virus checker for Mac OS X. It uses the tried, tested and very popular ClamAV open source antivirus engine as a back end.

..and it works great.

Have you gentlemen picked up anything yet??

This software has the ability to move files on your computer, therefore it is absolutely vital that you back up any important data before running ClamXav. While it is possible to move files back to wherever they were moved from (see the FAQ), I regret that I can not be expected offer assistance in this matter.

Okay.....just how much should we back-up? Shocked

PS- does anyone know that link for the free PC virus checker?

The best email client is Eudora. Eudora will slam all attachments into folders on the disk. There is no demented nesting or embedding going on. Eudora can handle huge amounts of email. Outlook and MS Outrage ( Entourage ) will selfcombust at any time. The way the mail is stored you will risk losing it all.

Right.. so do get Eudora. When setting up autoscan in ClamXav the most important folder is Attachments, but if I were you I would also set up Delivery and Parts for autoscan.
Another matter is that EVERYTHING is contained in the Eudora folder in user/documents. You can drag this foilder to another mac and you will not lose a thing. Backing up your email simply means making a copy to tape or DVD or whatever of this "Eudora folder" in user/documents. We like that.

What files do you get from where? Whatever you don´t get by mail or download using a browser you can most probably scan manually. Set up autoscan of your download folders.

Clamxav will manage most stuff but trojans are something else. Brinxmat has shown how a trojan can be made.

And do try the Xmas icons attached to this post.

I recommend also getting something like Zebra, and TURN OFF the "open safe files" in Safari NOW.

Try http://versiontracker.com - the PC section. The links at Matrk Allen`s place were dead?

http://www.clamav.net/ still worked fine 10 secs ago. You did not try that one?

PC free anti-virus check: search Google for AGV.
