Basically I am building a WSG in the body of a telephone, I want to use the the telephone mic to talk through and appear at the output when the WSG is not on.
So I need a pre amp of sorts to do this. The simpler the better. does any body have any ideas?

You mean you need something that can pick up the signal of the mic in the handset and also drive the speaker in the handset? Is this WSG designed to only be heard on the little handset speaker?

Most phones, unless they are really really old, use electret mics, which are fortunately easy to amplify.

If you open up the phone, does the microphone look like a little metal cylinder with black fabric on one side and two little solder points on the other side (electret mic) or does it look like a big fat disc with little holes all over it (older phone style mic, not sure what to do with those...) ?
