The only problem i have now that the BMP i got for the pot scaling almost match the ones used with Modcan/Cyndustries.
If someone could help me out with a better design that would be so great!

I'll help you out Smile

jpegs, bit maps and the like are great for images which need resizing, but for front panels, they're a joke.

I recommend that you buy a copy of Q-cad by Ribbonsoft. It's only $26. Q-cad will save both a BMP/ PNG/ PDF file etc- so you can post it here for everyone to have a look at, and it will also save to DXF, which has all your metadata and is the industry standard technical document format (and DWG too!).

Also get GIMP. It's like Illustrator/ Photoshop, yet it's FREE!

But I need those front panel dimensions for the modcan stuff.

The circle is about 16mm and 22m (midddle / outside)
Here is an example from a panel from her site.

I need more info than that I'm afraid. I need the measurements in Height, Depth and Width (in mm) for the front panel. I also need the exact width of the collar of the knob (the piece nearest the panel).

Also are the pots miniature or standard?

Did you see my Q-cad mock-up of the modcan frontpanel decal on the wogglebug thread?

Boards came today. Everything looks great. Even loved the colored staple for the docs!

Mine will be on hold until I finish my two soundlabs. Can't wait!

Sounds good to me Cool

Out of curiosity, what is the PCB design software called that you are using? Does it autoroute too?

Well, I will be switching over to Eagle Layout but for now I am using the tried and true, at least for small projects, Express PCB. Fonik also uses it for his layouts. I also use Multisim 2000 Ultiboard and Ultaroute.

An autorouter is the way to go for larger multilayer projects since it is not as time consuming. It can take literally hours just to layout a simple 2 sided board like the SN Voice without one.

Autorouters come with a price, good ones cost big $$$. Eagle layout professional is about $1200.00 which is not bad and comes with a large database of part footprints and a schematic editor.

Look them up, you can get a base package for only $49.00 !!!

My forte' is really not PCB's though, but is in embedded systems, digital, and analog design. My real job is in radar and avionics design.

If that's the case, those really must be some far out embedded system and radar designs! The SN-Voice PCB is as good as it gets, people. If you're sitting on the fence as to whether to get one or not, I'd go for one before they're gone.

Cheers,
Scott

Ah yes Eagle. Very good. I haven't used it in a while, because of my University work. I think Eagle is the business, because it's multiplatform; unlike Express PCB which is PC only. But at least the latter is free Very Happy

At first I had problems getting eagle to work- all that terminal stuff Shocked
However, I soon found a work around and printed a little guideline to getting it to work on Versiontracker.com;
Quote:

1. Download Eagle 4.1 from Cadsoft and unstuff it using Aladdin Stuffit Deluxe (free download)
2. Download X11 from Apple's website (another free download Smile )
3. Take the unstuffed download from your 'documents' folder (or wherever you have set the download folder to be in Safari). Take it and move it to your 'applications' folder.
4. Start up the X11 server and leave it running in the background
5. Locate the file marked 'bin' in the Eagle folder in your applications folder, open it and double-click
on the Unix exec file named "Eagle" (NOT "Eagle.1", with the logo).

I don't know whether this still works with the latest version of Eagle, but I'll see in a sec Smile

Interestingly enough, I used to know (through a friend) the guy who ran the pedal company Lovetone. I think his name was Dan? It's been a while...

Anyway, while Lovetone were developing new designs of pedals, they noticed one very peculiar thing, if components' positions on the boards were populated on the board in different layouts, or configurations, it would have a differing result to the final sound. It may be worth bearing this in mind. Of course Lovetone are strictly analogue, and use no digital components;

http://www.dinosaural.com/

http://www.lovetone.com/

- it was Dan! I just found him on the website Very Happy The top one is the new address. Lovetone is there, but maybe he's not with them anymore?

Apple users;

Click on X11 server, then click on "Eagle" in bin file (with red logo). Forget the readme Laughing

Bill, I'm running Eagle now. It reminds me very much of Q-cad from Ribbonsoft- which also does schematics, but in a slightly different way. Q-cad also does dxf, it's really cheap and there's no size limit- which is really nice.

OK, cool. I assume you like it? I will likely get the full up professional edition some time after the holiday. I want to make sure I like it by using the "stripped" down edition for while. I don't like to make hasty decisions when it comes to engineering software.

Speaking of university work, I have a class to start: "Signal's and Systems" with lots of "Matlab" usage .... very intense Shocked I will be out of circulation for a bit of time because of this but will pop in from time to time to check on the forum.

It's for the wide body. The Thin Mill-Max socket was a bit steep in price. I just soldered mine to the PCB ....

i had a hard time finding a socket for the narrow bodied SN at all! so i'm gonna use singlerow SMD sockets. they are quite cheap!

Wow, how could I have missed all of this??? Very exciting stuff!!! I've been away from electro-music.com for nearly two months Sad

I'm going to buy two boards (I have two skinny SN76477s) and I just wanted to make sure you still have two left. As soon as I hear back that you've got some, I'll PayPal away.

Thanks for taking on the project of making a board available for everyone. Great!

Also, I highly recommend Eagle. I've used it for lots of projects and it's fantastic. Sometimes you have to fight with the autorouter a bit if you're anal about low via counts and pretty looking traces, but it's otherwise a great program. Very easy to add library components once you get used to the Eagle way of thinking.

I can't wait to finally use those SN76477s. They've been in my parts bin for over six years!

Busy busy busy. Lots of work, moving to a new apartment, etc etc. Also been in a bit of a creative slump. But coming back to this board today and reading about all of the exciting goings on in the DIY world has got me excited! Actually, in the last week or so it's like my head has cracked open and tons of amazing new ideas have poured out into my comp book.

Order: placed.
2 x $18 per board + $4 for shipping = $40.
Can't wait to get these boards! Very Happy

Good luck with the apartment and glad to see your emerging from the "slump". I think we all do from time to time. The distraction from moving is certainly NO help Sad Also, you need to fill us in on that groovy pile of Blacet stuff you have been constructing over the past few months ....

More good news is I will be shipping your SN Voice boards first thing tomorrow so hang tight, they will be there in a few days.... Very Happy
