Flimsy Knobs? |
 |
|
| I've had my A6 for a short while now and while I love the sound, I have to say the knobs range from being sturdy to really flimsy and "wobbly". Is this normal for the A6? What are your units like? |

They're not 'rock solid', but they're not 'sloppy loose' either.
A little bit of wobble, but not enough to make me overly concerned I'd say. |

Well I wouldnt use the words flimsy or wobble to describe how my knobs feels. Its just that some of them seem to have a bit of "play" in them. The OSC semitone knobs dont wiggle or move at all but the smaller knobs like the cents and fine knobs are little bit more "loose".You can grab them and sort of wiggle them side to side. Not a lot of movement but it is noticeable compared to say,my master volume knob or the filter frequency and semitone knobs, which are completely stiff.
The first andromeda I had(which I returned for a stupid reason) also had the same trait.
I was so paranoid right after I bought the andromeda that sent it back and exchanged for a different one because I thought something was wrong with it.Now I actually have a real problem with mine and I kinda wish I had kept the first one because in reality it probably had nothing wrong with it.
As soon as the second one got here I had to take it apart and adjust the mod wheel because it wouldnt stay in place at all.It slowly roll to the completely off position or if it was more towards on it would roll completely on.There was no middle. All it took was a bit of adjusting though and now it stays in place well. _________________ The Gnomes have learned a new way to say Hooray |

What you're describing sounds normal. Some knobs on mine are slightly less 'solid-feeling' and have a little play in them than others. Nothing terribly concerning though. _________________ -------------------------------

I think this is normal. The knobs have different sizes/types, and possibly makes of potentiometers underneath them, so they will each have a different "feel". Some will be stiffer than others. Some of the knobs may have 2-gang pots which tend to be a bit stiffer than single-gang pots.
I would think multiples of the same function knob (e.g. filter 1 cutoff vs. filter 2 cutoff) would have the same feel. |

The pot shafts aren't screwed to the front panel, that's why they wobble a bit. That's normal and nothing to worry about. Securing 72 pots (!) to the panel would have increased the manufacturing price considerably, as it has to be done by manual labor. Also, in case of having to replace a pot (or a button), it would be alot more hassle first having to unscrew all the remainig pots in order to remove the panel board. So it's a reasonable compromise.
Just be careful (and use a dust cover too). |
