I'm presuming the caps around the 500K pot are non polarised, as opposed to the switched ones (which have polarity markings)?

the markings on the "schematic" are a bit inconsistent in the way they are drawn. any capacitor gives a phase shift. i used non-polarized for all the caps. im pretty sure you can use polarized for any cap too, if you make sure the - side goes to ground

Subject description: well, it ain't working yet.. trying to find out why.

I've tried to make the vactrol controlled filter as I need some LPG's/VCA's.
Though there ain't nothing coming out yet (no magic smoke either).
I've been using these vactrols:

Though I think it probably has to do with the ground-connection.
Do I need to connect the ground of the audio input to the ground of the audio output too? Or is this covered with the ground-connection to the vactrol input through the capacitor?

ps.
1. how should the capacitor be connected?
I've connected the minus pin to the ground of the output.

2. I've made a voltage divider using 2 180ohm resistors before the vactrol:
in series between positive and ground, then the vactrol connected in the middle with the cathode (shown with a dot)

3. the ground of the output is ONLY connected to the capacitors (I used two, with positive pins connected to a switch and both negative pins to the ground, so I can select different caps)
