Guitar Rig 3 - just for 'guitar sounds'? Nope! |
 |
|
Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've posted on the forum - actually quite a long time... Been on a musical walk-about so to speak...but enough of that.
Not sure how many of you string-slingers, ambient guitarists, etc. use software for processing your instruments, but I decided that instead of having a floor full of boxes and cables to trip over, I would put as much as possible in a computer (or 2..) and see what I can do.
I ended up picking up Native Instruments Guitar Rig and have really been having a good time with it. Sure, it could use better delays and 'verbs...but it still has a lot of processing capability. Yea, it can sound like a whole bunch of differnt guitar amps...but it is capable of doing so much more.
I was playing around with some of the Modifiers it has - lfo's in particular - and decided to modulate their Pro-53 filter module...and proceeded to work on a suitable input 'sound' so that you could hear the filter action and in the end, sound like a synth pad.
The patch ended up being called Ambient Stick Pad (A.S.P.)and there are actually a couple variations of it. You can hear what it sounds like at my MySpace page - www.myspace.com/desneed . The song Stellar C is a live recording of me playing my Chapman Stick into an early version of A.S.P. No overdubbing at all. This version didn't have the balance controls between the clean, unprocessed signal and the pad sound. My later versions did. Also note - YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE A GUITAR OR BASS (OR STICK) TO USE THIS PATCH...run anything into it.
In any case, if anyone is interested in the bank of A.S.P. and it's variations, let me know. Is there a place to upload patches here?

back Dave.
Sounds pretty good to me, you can zip up the patch and attach it to your post.
I wouldn't mind having a play with it.
Cheers

I'll get the bank cleaned up and post it tomorrow or this weekend. In the meantime I do have it posted at Native Instruments in the Guitar Rig User patch area, under Special F/X. I know I've tweaked it a bit since then - but basically the same.

You are more then welcome!
I think they can be used for so many things besides guitar/bass - and you don't have to run them by themselves. Put them as an Aux return in a mixing system so that mutliple instruments can be processed for example.
I've been working with a looper routing and these looking to have a self generating type of wash. Pretty interesting results to be sure...
I'm really looking forward to GR 4 coming out. I sure hope they put a better pitch shifter in it. Polyphonic preferably. That would open up so much more. _________________ Dave
