There are many people paying to support this ridiculous industry. I know someone from the Boston area who has been in the HiFi business for years. He says the real money is in the extreme high end - low volume and high profit margins. There are two sad things about all this.

1) It encourages deception and dishonesty.

2) It doesn't provide better sound - often the sound of the audiophile products is inferior to consumer grade stuff.

Last year I heard a pair of speakers a fellow spent $37,000 for. The sounded shitty - bad - not a flat response and very weak bass. What do you tell someone who buys this when he shows them to you? I said, "Those are neat looking, that's for sure."
