paia theremax interferences |
 |
|
Hi!
i want to build a sound lab with an integrated paia theremax.
did you know if the SL PCB will interact with theremax PCB or antennas?
Someone of you could try to approach any oscillating device to the theremax pcb and tell me what happens? |

I moved this to the Sound Lab forum but left a link behind in Theremin. This is a more active forum and there is a better chance of getting an appropriate responce. _________________ --Howard

I'm not sure what you mean in your post, but the Theremax has CV outs that could control the Soundlab as well as a gate. http://www.paia.com/therpanl.htm _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

sorry again and again.... for my english.
when i say interaction i mean "unwanted" interaction.
i'm afraid that electro-magnetic fields produced by sound lab pcb will disturb the theremax functioning.
this is the reason because i ask to someone to approach a oscillating module pcb (because without oscillations there is no EM fields) like VCOs or LFOs to the theremax pcb and tell me what you listen.
this could be very helpful for me!
thanks |

i don't have theremax board and my SL is still on construction - so i can't try this for you.
but i suggest that you should build the theremax inside a metal housing (Faraday cage) if it's sensitive to EM-fields.
if SL is sending too much EM-radiation change to a metal box would help. _________________ Association of experimental electronics

Please no apologies needed. I don't have a theremax so cannot test either, but I would agree with Daniel. I hope someone can chime in or consider sending a pm to someone who has more electronics knowledge. Or e-mail Ray Wilson _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

I have a Theremax and have used it with my Soundlab. The two work great together. I have the Tmax mounted in a case with a small amp and speaker and there seems to be no interference from that, so i don't think a Soundlab would do anything. I do get a hell of a lot of radio interference where i live which some fine tuning of the oscillators took care of (for the most part)
here are some mods to do to make the CV out on the Tmax sensitive thanks to kevin kissinger. To get the lag out of your Pitch CV try the following:
1) Remove C24, and
2) Replace C21 (10uf) with a 5uf electrolytic capacitor |

I've actually used my theremax with my soundlab also. I keep them stacked on to of one another and haven't had any problems. I would suggest shielding the RF oscillators on your theremax even if you don't integrate it into your soundlab. I stuck pieces of copper board in between the individual oscillators and ran one above them as well. You can find a lot of information about theremax mods on this page. I wouldn't think you'd run into any problems combining it with a soundlab. I've seen people add boards into their theremax including adding the power supply into the case.
Good luck! _________________ When they plug me in the lights go down in Hong Kong.
