Telharmonium Talk at 07? Subject description: Should there be a talk on the 1st widely known electronic instrument? |

Hello Everyone
Its 6 months away and I'm already mashing at the bit .. . or doing a bit of mashing depending on who you ask . . ..
You may recall the talk on the history of recorded sound I gave at last year's electro-music festival, it was a bit of an oddity b/c it didn't focus on electronic music persee, but it was well received, and I'm immensely grateful to all who attended .. ..
I floated this idea past big Mosc at the festival last year, I'm puttin out there for y'all to weigh in on now. . . .
How about a talk on the first electronic instrument, or at least the first widely known electronic instrument that spurred the dreams of Busoni, his pupil Varese, and many more. . . .Dr. Thaddeus Cahill's Telharmonium??
Would anyone be interested in a talk about this at this year's festival?
*note I haven't proposed this yet, I'm awaiting the community's response first
btw, my given name is Seth Brown, in case you are having trouble finding me on last years list .. . ..
lastly, i see there is a poll option but im more interested in qualitative feedback from the community |

A talk about the Telharmonium would be very interesting indeed, particularly as it compares with today's world of mp3's. -- Wasn't the teleharmonium designed so that the audience listened on their own telephones? Interesting parallel with today where much music is transmitted via phone lines and is heard through personal headsets (such as I am wearing now at the office).
An interesting topic from a technical, historical, and philosophical viewpoint. |

the telharmonium is like a delicious dessert, the more your read the recipe, the hungrier you get!!!
by some accounts the Telharmonium was the first thing to push anything other than voice over the phone lines . . . .
electronically generated signals moving over the phone lines . . . .pre 1900!!
in fact, the signal was so strong it bled into other calls. . .some telephone users reporting strange electronic music in the background. . . . |
