SN Voice Boards End of Ordering for production RUN #2 Subject description: many thanks ............ it's been fun !! |
 |
|
Well, I am shipping all the boards by the end of next week fellas. Total sold= 70 PCB's and lots of connectors and chips ... I have shipped about 30 of those packages today. Thanks to everyone who has bought these SN Voice boards ..... I have two synthesizers built up for myself ....
I am taking names for anyone who is interested in getting in on a third run of boards later in the spring ... apparently there are lots more SN76477 chips than I expected begging to be used in this TH 1V/Octave circuit!! I have had 8 more e-mails asking about a third run
Thanks again guys ! Remember to post what you are building. I know you are building them .....

Thanks to you Bill!
btw - I used TL074 op-amps and a 2SC1583 dual transistor with this circuit = no probs
finished my minisyn, updated the homepage -

Alright !! Nice. I guess a bit of careful lead forming was necessary to get the Japanese 2SC version of the matched transistor package in place. Was it a bitch to get the TEMPCO mated to it's surface? Let me know. I am wondering if I should add footprints for various matched transistor pair types that can be used with this circuit? How many octaves would you say you had good V/Oct tracking?
I did not have any doubts that the TL074 would work as it is also a JFET low noise amplifier like the LF444.
Thanks for posting the pictures of that ZANY synth !!!!

its not the 1st time I've persuaded the 2SC1583s to fit in LM394 spacing.
my tempcos come from a friend in Japan and are 1/8W sized, so easy to fit.
check out the CGS64 VCA pcb (not the tubeversion) for an example on how to design for multiple types of dual transistors.
from Ken's article -"The board is designed to take a variety of dual transistors, including 2SC3381, 2SC1583, MAT02, LM394, SSM2210 etc."

cheers - i'm glad to finally have something tranportable
The DR110 needs more work though - individual trigger inputs and individual audio outputs for a start |

Now I am too excited |
 |
|
I can hardly wait! These boards look and sound amazing, and I've already got most of the parts here waiting for them. Nice to know I can use my 2sc1583 if the 394s take too long to get here.
To my surprise, I found that Allied sells shrink-DIP 28-pin ZIF sockets, so I just had to get a few of those. I used to have a few tubes of 76477s but I sold most off them off because the pin spacing was too much of a bother to experiment with. Happy I kept a few.
I'm likely going to add mix mode switches and see if I can make more of the parameters voltage controllable.
I just woke up, must go do stuff...
Thank you Bill!!! |

Ah, OK. Yes the TEMPCO's I got from MFOS are a bit large.

Seems like a good way to go, thanks for that link

..wondered if you had some of the same.
I thought I had a lifetime supply, but no, the bag is emptying at a steady rate. |

Just had a simple test with my Korg tuner.
7 octaves range; for me, the middle 5 tracked very well.
now my ears hurt. |

OK, very good. mine tracks well for 5 octaves from 100 Hz to about 3500 Hz. After that, it starts to sound a bit funky. As I have mentioned before on other posts, it makes a real nice bassline synthesizer for jungle and drum and bass stuff!
Thanks.

Big big thanks to you Bill,
very nice work what you made.
I let you know when having it done, but it will take some time.

yawn - must stay awake another few hours... so time to stuff some boards!
The shrink-dip sockets are just a bit too big, I'll need to save them for my own PCBs, if I ever make any. Or maybe they'll fit Blacet's adaptors. Still waiting for my LM394s from Futurelec.
Great news is that I finally have resistors and caps, so I can get started. Going to do my ASM-1 boards first though, as they have been waiting for years. Those will be finished this weekend. And my first two SN Voice boards will be started.
I'm wondering just what I am going to do with these! I have a desktop case, I might put two in there with some other stuff to make for a portable noise box. But feature-creep is rough with something this good! I might need to wait until I bench-test the circuits before I know what else they want me to build in there with them. Here goes!
Bill, you rock, sir! |

Andrew, I love your dub-box synth! Everything is so not uniform and symmetrical as most DIY synths I see out there. The pictures and sounds are a blast.
Also I like how you worked the DR110 into it, this is something I've really wanted to do with mine. I modded the hell out of my 110 about two years ago with a small outboard knob-box, but then I decided to go mad and install a PIC 16F84 MIDI interface and individual outs... the PIC burned for whatever reason and the outs are too much work, already too much wire running through there. Thought I might wait until I get another DR110, but I might not!
SN Voices will be a nice addition to your rig there! |
