Are there any books out there that would teach me the basics behind synthesizer electronics theory?

I would love to learn how these things work, to design my own stuff.

Arg,
Cole

The best one imo is;

Musical Applications for Microprocessors

by Hal Chamberlain

failing that, just hang around here for a while Very Happy

I would also recommend the ARP 2600 Users Manual, by Jim Michmerhuizen. For a starter that's one of the best discourses on how things work. It's not highly technical, it doesn't explain how to build circuits, but it does explain why they work together.

If you are more advanced, spend $35 on The Musical Engineers Handbook since that more or less defined the standards that most circuits work together with.

Bernie Hutchins' "Musical Engineer's Handbook", and "Builders Guide and Preferred Circuits Collection"... the Handbook will walk you through all the theory, and the Guide gives actual final designs. A significant number of the commercial modular designs available today are based on the circuits in these books. Order from Electronotes

haha, funny!

I just got "Musical Applications for Microprocessors" in the mail yesterday, looks like a great book from what i've read/flipped through.

Also, funny you mention Bernie Hutchins! I just bought a bunch of stuff from him a couple weeks ago including both those books! He lives in my town so I actually got to stop by his workshop and pick them up in person!

Just FYI when you buy Bernie's books they are just a stack of paper sheets so they aren't bound. I like his books so much that I brought them to a local Book-Bindery and as we speak they are being made into hard cover versions! I can't wait to get them back, when I do i will take pictures and show you guys how they came out!!!!
I opted for the Bright-Orange-70's-Style-Cover so i'm sure it will look like a vintage masterpiece!

You're in Ithaca, then. All Electronotes were always just copy sheets. He's remarkably low tech, although he was high tech back in 1973. A lot of us read them.

Welcome to the forums, by the way. Looking forward to see how the binding comes out.
