First of all my name is Paul. I'm 30 and blah blah blah Smile

After a looong break in music production I finally found the resources and time to jump in the bus again.

I have a rather simple question:

1 - Using the NL2x as a master keyboard will I be able to control the VIRUS TI, VSTi synths thru it and also make them all to work with cubase SX?
2 - I used to have Z1 and the AN1x and with cubase SX every knob move and etc was recorded on same midi channel. DOes the NL2x work same way?
(I know my English isn't good so try hard to understand me please Smile )

I just read these and other forums and there seems to be some issues with the midi on the 2x and since i'm looking for a master keyboard I wouldn't want to find myself in a situation where it won't work the way i want it to.

I was going to go for the TI Key but paying over $1K more isn't something I need.

I need to practice with English more that is for sure tho Smile

And if any of you want to hear some of my old music feel free to check:

www.myspace.com/gimaxsounds

or www.download.com/gimax

thx Smile

welcome Paul. You should go introduce yourself in the right place. Only Nord Lead people come to this forum.

Regarding your situation. You are not giving enough detail about your configuration. Please give more detail. In particular, please explain the computer, MIDI interface, and how you are connecting them.

This isn't really a Nord issue, from what I read. But we can talk here. Wink

Thx for fast reply Smile

Actually it is a Nord issue as even this forums have topics about midi working in a 'different' way than any other brands.

My system will be: (just waiting on shipping to arrive Very Happy )

Intel Pentium D 3.6
4 gig ram
2 10K RMP westen digital hard drives
Echo Layla 3G sound card
Gigastudio V3
Cubase SX
some VSTi and Atmosphere synth

Nord Lead 2x
Virus TI rack
AKAI S5000
and most probably Radias rack but still thinking about it

The Nord will be my master keyboard and all I am wondering about after reading these forums if it can handle that job right Smile

Some posts state that midi can not be sent to external sequencers on 1 channel but uses 2 instead and etc.

Together with GigaStudio I will probably use around 64 midi channels at the same time so it is important for me that it works flawless.

Well, I know about the troubles somebody had regarding ProgramChange, but I couldn't trace the problem then, because in my (and others) set up it worked well.

Important is to know the NordLead sends it's controllers on a fixed Midi CC. In the free to download Manual at www.clavia.se you find on [page 89 or page 103 - different versions] a list of all controllers with their CC #.
Check in the other manuals if these are the same (mostly this is the case!) I'm not sure about parameters like FM amount and the LFO's...
You can do this research already.

If there are to many differences between the systems, you have to change the data in the sequencer, maybe by copy/paste - a hell of a job when using 64 midi channels (do you really have enough sound generators to do this?).
If the configuration is to messy you better use a freely to assign Midi Controller where every parameter can be assigned to every CC...

Be sure to disable the SysEx filter in CuBase!

Anyway, there is no 'the right forum' to introduce yourself besides the 'new on the forum' forum and your question is welcome here.

Thank you very much Wout.
Appreciate it a lot Smile

As for midi.. hehe yeah. 1 pad alone takes around 7 to 9 midi channels for me so I get the sound I like Smile

Gigastudio can operate with 64 channels at once and since it's direct disk streaming then there is no worries about computer power. All you need is fast drives and that's all Smile

Rest goes to Cubase which eats it all lol but together they give quite powerful combination

Impossible!
You'll need 76 Midi channels to make use of all the multi timbrals Very Happy
Gladly the NL2X has only 4!

Nah.. I'm decided to go back to old habits.

Z1 just stepped on my doors today.
I always loved that underrated piece of art Smile

Most people hate that synth but for me it's and probably always be the best one ever.

I played with the Radias for over 3 hours yesterday and got bored of it.

Best thing is... The Z1 is brand new Very Happy
Managed to get it for $1100 with factory warranty lol.

Now I'm waiting for Nord to arrive and back into the game Smile

Have a nice time! Smile
BTW I love those lights in your studio. Seems to me they create a good mood to make music.
