Well, if you really want some NICE speakers for listening and playing music, then try these guys out. Klipsch. I had a pair for years and they sound absolutely GREAT !!!! They are not monitor speakers, the kind you use for mixing and production work, they will run you a bit more, but are what I recommend when folks want to hear QUALITY music coming from their PC or MAC !!

Here is what I owned and LOVED this set !!! You will to and it's really a great price !!

Here is a more reasonably priced set comparable to what you are showing:

Here is some 5.1 channel sound stuff:

Trust me on this one !! Very Happy Very Happy

I´m really a loudspeaker nutcase, but I have no idea about these desktop speakers. Shocked Laughing

Listen to Bill!

Anyways, Yamaha MSP5 might be an alternative. This is kinda like a desktop speaker but is also a decent small studio monitor. I have seen some excellent deals on it out there. It is really good.

These are nice also. At @ $250.00 USD, they are not a bad deal, and you can master with them !!

These, Behringer DEQ2496 RTA /EQ and flat response measurement microphone and your good to go for about $600.00 all together. Very Happy

Here is the block diagram of the Yamaha speakers for anyone to gaze upon ........ Shocked

So, looking back on the your original post, what do you REALLY want to do with your setup? Can you describe the setup and any music that you may write/perform?? Do you primarily write music in stereo, or, multichannel sound? WE can ten apply some more critical thought....... Wink

Agreed, the MSP7 monitors are awesome.

As for the DEQ and similar devices, personally I´m not all in favour of that way of compensating for room issues. It might work of sorts if you know what you are doing and also working the room a bit in order fix serious room issues. EQ certainly won´t improve time/phase/freq issues. However, I reckon we can discuss in some other thread later.. but I guess doing that here is OT. My bad.. but.. I´m a nut.. I just had to comment on it.

Just got these:

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/StudioPro3-main.html

Similar sort of intent as the ones you're looking at, but smaller and cheaper I believe.

They give a really nice, clean sound. I would never master with them, but for a tight space they do the job.

AND they have a nice 1/8" STEREO AUX IN on the front and also a headphone port on the front of a speaker!! NICE ...

This is a good thread as it shows you really don't have to spend many 100's of dollars to get decent sound from your computer setup.

Yes, agree, you need to know the gear to do it right.

Unfortunately, no, it will not compensate for overall room compensation, just the immediate listening area for mixing purposes.
