Hi,
It's time to place your orders for the Thomas Henry designed Quadrature Function generator PCB's.
This module gives you 4 simultaneous triangle outputs, separated by a 90° phase shift. ( Quadrature Triangle Oscillator) with V/oct scaling for CV of frequency, There is a visually interesting LED display of the Quad outputs and a low, med. and High range switch select is provided for.
You can read about the design itself at Scott Stites site here:
http://mypeoplepc.com/members/scottnoanh/birthofasynth/id29.html
You can read about the board design here:
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-18716.html
Below is a representation of the THD107 VC-QFG layout:
The PCB is Half Euro Size 3.2x3.95"(80x100mm), 2 oz copper PTH, solder mask both sides, with white Component silkscreen. Assembly, testing, and use instructions will be provided via PDf when the boards ship. There is a BOM at the Scott Stites Page.
The board has provision for a Doepfer style power header with the CV and Gate bus. A Molex or MTA.156 for MOTM and Blacet power entry is provided. The Blacet inspired power protection circuitry is also available.
This PCB will accept pots from Alpha, Bourns, Spectrol, and Panasonic. Others will likely fit too. They are on an .800 spacing, so if you want to use it with MOTM or Dotcom you will have very near the 1.625 spacing using the Rate and Mod pots to mount the board. The Fine pot will then mount separately using an MTA connector. Of course, you can solder directly to the PCB instead if you wish.
The PCB is natively designed for use with a EURO rack or Frac-Rack, and will be an easy build with minimal panel wiring. It is designed for +/-15V.
The PCB has two and three pin MTA header locations for all panel mounted parts; following the dotcom standard. If a GND is needed at the panel; it's on the header. You do not have to use the panel mounted pots; there is an MTA header available as part of each board mount pot layout.
There is a multi pad area for choosing and mounting timing capacitors. Three Cap positions and the switch to use them are supported natively. (Note that the actual board layout has increased space for large capacitors compared to this pictorial representation. Modded since creating the pic.)
There is an extra board mount pot location, and additional pads into the CV summing node. Along with GNDS.
The board Has many extra pads for expansion.
A Sister module comprising a Quad VC-PWM module to utilise the outputs of this board as inputs and provide additional opportunities for soundscape generation will soon follow this offer.
I've also got a Quad VCA in the works which is being produced with this board in mind.
The price for these boards is 18USD+ 4USD shipping in the USA and actual shipping cost elsewhere. For 20USD I'll include gold plated headers, machined pin socket strips for all IC's and all decoupling caps and diodes. Buy two for 38USD and I'll also include a couple of 13700's.
Have a look at the Scott Stites site for the BOM and you'll see that the 13700's are the closest thing to any hard-to-find parts for this module.
Online Paypal and Credit card ordering will be available. I'll let all who order now know where to go for payment once the ordering and testing of final layout is complete.
Right now I need to know that you are placing a firm order for X number of boards.
Please send an email to: randaleem AT yahoo DOT com with the subject heading: QFG PCBs. Please include your mailing address and any special shipping instructions.
I'm excited about what this module offers already. (Thank you Thomas Henry!). With the upcoming Quad VC-PWM and Quad VCA add-ons it does even more.
Thank you for your interest and orders; looking forward to seeing your results.
Randal

Right, listen... AFAIK I thought we had settled this already. Thomas Henry has not licensed any of his designs to your startup company. You know that. I know that. The QFG is of course not a product in your product range. You can sell a limited number of PCBs at cost if you step back into the quadrature project thread and join the team there. Being a participant in a Thomas Henry forum project does not mean you can manucture kits and modules based on the TH designs. I know Thomas Henry gave you permission for a PCB, but then there is doing a run and there is doing a run. You introduced the fact that you were doing this as a business after Thomas Henry gave you the nod for traditional kosher DIY PCB run.

Maybe I missed something, but I thought Thomas gave the go ahead for a run of PCBs. It seems that is all Randal is doing is collecting orders for a normal run of PCBs just as many other people on here have done. I have never heard anything about "kits" or "completed modules" for this design being built and sold through some company.
Again, I may be missing something, but this seems to be coming out of nowhere. The PCB price seems to be right in line with every other PCB I have ordered here so I can't imaging much profit is being made. |

Not really, but then some issues haven´t been discussed in public. Anyways, now that I have pointed out the obvious this should not be a problem anymore. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I'm hoping that Mr. Henry will speak for himself on this... elektro80's comments leaves things less than clear, at least to me.

Hi all,
Well, I just rolled in after covering 1300 miles on a wild road trip to the nether regions of the US. Time to get caught up...

Well, this is my fault for not making things a little more clear to everyone here early on, including our esteemed moderator Elektro80.
I gave Scott Stites permission to put the QFG out on his Web site as a freebie several months ago. It's not a hard circuit to build, especially since Scott did such a great job of writing it up and providing all sorts of hints and tips. However, I know that some people prefer working a little more pre-fab, and so I gave Randaleem permission to make a circuit board available, as long as it included good buyer satisfaction (after all, my name is still on it!). What's that great quote from Shakespeare about "names" versus "wealth"? Any takers?
I sincerely appreciate the concern Elektro80 has shown for making sure this is on the up-and-up. That's what I like about the EM Forum; there's great friendship, great ethical regard for other's hard work and great looking out for each other. Anyway, what with the hustle of finishing up some projects, then hitting the road for a vacation, I failed to let everyone know that the QFG board is the real-deal. So don't blame Elektro80 for double-checking to make sure this was a legit project. I think it's great that he stepped forward to ensure all is well.
Sorry I didn't make this more clear early on,
Thomas Henry |

Cool, thanks for clearing that up Thomas. I am one of the newer guys to DIY that still prefer premade PCBs. I got a little nervous there for a minute that some problems might have arose and the PCB run might not materialize. Good to know that its all good now and will still happen.
And even though it has been said before, I would like to sincerely thank Thomas, Scott, Tim, Bill, Matthias, Jan, Randal, Juergen, Ian, Tom and all of the others that work so hard and make this such a great place to hang out and learn and provide us with tons of great new projects. I have really learned a lot and built some great modules since joining this forum. And big kudos to Howard and the mods as well for keeping this place up. A virtual beer to you all!

After a few days you probably best undo the lmhosts thing, just in case the IP address changes again at some time - then the trick will work against you ... _________________ Jan

Have any of you received paypal payment requests from Randaleem? He told me two weeks ago that I'd be receiving one, but have not seen it. Don't want to miss out on these boards. |

Given how many boards have been offered lately, it's not like I'm dying for something to do, so it's okay if it takes a while longer for these to show up.
I can afford to be patient at this point. I don't know if anybody else can, but I sure can. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Yeah after spending a couple hundred on restocking my parts, and looking at another couple hundred on pots, knobs, jacks and bits, not to mention finding a few more hard to get parts like 76477s and such, it's beyond being skint. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Hi,
The Thomas Henry QFG boards have been put to manufacture and are expected in late this week, or perhaps early next week.
If you have pre-ordered, you should have received an email from me in the last day or two.
If you have placed an order and have not received an email, please let me know at my regular email:
randaleem (at) yahoo (dot) com
The website will be opened up shortly after the THD107 QFG's are shipped, in support of them and also to show the additional items I've been working on.
Thank you for your orders,
Randal |

Hi Coriolis,
I expected them in this week; now it looks like they'll be coming in and ship next week.
(I had a fair amount of last minute orders; and increased the run size considerably; so I think that's the reason behind the extra few days.)
