I got round to expanding my G2 and have been playing with quite a heavy almost 100% on every slot patch. this one patch, I can't open it, and I'd kept saving it the same name for a while so it's a bit of a loss. when I try to load it the editor just disappears in a blink as if the G2 couldn't quite squeeze all that 800% into the pipes quick enough.

what happened? is there any way to repair it? does it load on anyone elses expanded G2?

the .prf is attached, if anyone can shed some light on why this is happening I'd be grateful.

It opens OK in the editor when no G2 is connected, I'll try sending it to the G2 later today when I'm at home again.

Pretty big patch Very Happy

good idea jan! I hadn't thought about opening the patch without the synth connected to see if it was corrupted or something. yes you're right, it loads fine without the synth connected, but it gets wierder:

I'd saved slot a as A patch and so on for slots B C and D, and then I loaded each slot individually and... it works just fine! whew I got that big patch back.

so it seems the problem is that the editor can't open the performance all in one go, but in smaller parts it can.

I also remember that slot A would not load unless I had started a new (empty) performance, but I have not rechecked this.

well at least I've not lost a few hours of patching, it would be be nice to find out how to load and save this file in the future though.

It's pretty reproducible here, with the G2 connected the patch loads and **bang** editor dead Sad

Restarting the editor shows just empty slots - oh wait, I started an empty perf just before I tried.

What happens if you save it in the synth (after the restoration trick) - would that make it usable?

yes I tried saving the four pchs as a perf again after the restoration trick and it makes no difference, the editor crashes in the same way.

so it seems the only way to work with this performance is to consider it as four patches that must be loaded one by one by one by one by one...

whoops I read you too quickly jan, I resaved the 4 individual patches (that I extracted from the disconnected editor) as a perf and that didn't work, but your idea of saving it inside the G2 works, I can now recall the perf. bravo!

so now that there is a workaround, any idea to why this is happening? it loads from the internal memory but not from the hard disk, and we know that it is a big pch. is there is a time limit for the loading of perfs? if all the patch data can't get over usb in eough time then this could explain the crash.

would a shorter usb cable make any difference?

I think it's a bug, getting some modules out an reinserting might change things. I don't believe another cable will help the coincidence of my cable being just as long as yours .... seems improbable, but you can always try of course Very Happy

Anyway being able to save it into the synth gives you the opportunity to go on editing on it and use it for a performance I think? (looking forward to a video of that BTW, I still have good memories of the drums video you posted here a (good) while ago).

actually from doing all that drumming I got tendonitis, and being unable to play drums for 6 months I started to play mbira and got completely addicted. the patch I sent is a traditional song with 2 mbiras playing, and a hosho (the shaker thing) and a bass drum just for the fun of it. I was hoping to use this patch as a tool for practising, being able to change the tuning easily to play with different mbiras, the tempo, punch in new parts etc, I'm also learning to build them end this is a great tool for trying out unusual tunings and listening to how the traditional songs sound.

so I recommend you hacking the .prf !

maybe the mbira will seep it's way into the duracell show...

here's some video links to compensate:

mbira: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7QGhXEU6gk

the song playing on the .prf is nhemamusasa, and these kids do a terrific version on marimba: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPlj5S31bFk

hurray for zimbabwean music!

Since this is a reproducible bug- can we get this in the Bug List forum- or better yet send it directly to Clavia so they can have a look?

Maybe the fix will get into the mythical next release of the OS. Wink
