FAQ ;) Subject description: Buying a G2.... |
 |
|
Hello everybody,
Just to save some space here is the link to my introduction
http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-21500.html
I've a question about the sound quality of the G2, I've tried the demo, but I am sure the limitations also limit the sound quality.
I want to get more into modular synths, and thought the G2 was the right next step.
My question is, is the sound quality of the G2 engine that good, compared to a Virus, Korg Z1, Nordrack. and I don't mean the possibilities but just the audio engine. (am I making sense ) |

DNME,
The quality of the sound engine is just a matter of taste. I would say: take your own head phone with you and go to Feedback Rotterdam, you know, where Feijenoord plays the ball, and try it out for yourself! They surely have a Clavia G2 in display to play it for customers.

Why does SpellCheck wants to change Feijenoord? |

Hehehe
Yeah, might order it to test it, the thing is that I wasn't so impressed by the demo, maybe because you can't use it in a sequencer and it's only mono and not poly. Just want to get a synth with a special sound and lots of freedom to create sounds from strings to deep nice distorted basslines, and freaky sound fx. I thought a modular would be a nice alround machine for this, but it has to sound full. I've been reading some stuff about Reaktor vs G2, and since I am a hardware & software person I wonder what's best.
Grts,
Steph. |

It's always hard to know what people mean with "sound quality" . I mean, there are real, objectively measurable things that constitute "sound quality", like less aliasing, more headroom, better resolution etc.. But there are also subjective ones, which (since we are dealing with tools for an art form) are also valid .
So, I'll only briefly mention the objectively measurable facts:
1) The G2 oscillator modules have less aliasing than any of the synths mentioned.
2) The G2 modulation signals clock above the hearing range, at 24kHz, further improving sound quality. On all the synths mentioned, this is not nearly as high. (I clearly remember grainy LFOs on the Z1 and the NordLead.)
Note: I've owned and extensively used the Korg Z1, the Virus KB and the NordLead2, so I think I'm allowed to make these statements.
Hope this clarifies a bit. |

Thnx Tim for your point of view.
I've got the G2 Engine ATM to test it, so its a matter of time to find out for myself |
