Metalbox & Bananalogue Wave Multipliers Subject description: Are they different? |

Are they different? How, in terms of sound and function? Is the Metalbox WM based on the Serge design too? |

Hello,
You can read in www.metalbox.com : 'We are proud to offer CGS designs in Frac rack format'.
In the description of the wave multiplier module on Ken Stone website ( http://www.cgs.synth.net/ ) you can read: 'The idea for this project came from the fabled middle section of the Serge wave multipliers. I have never seen or heard one of these units, nor have I seen its schematic diagrams, but armed with descriptions and suppositions by various people who had seen them, and a couple of photos of CRO traces from the output of the module, I decided to design myself one.'
In www.bananalogue.com you can read: 'The WVX is based on the classic Wave Multiplier module designed by Serge Tcherepnin. Top and bottom sections of the unit are independent and transform an input wave in various ways. The effect is non-linear and useful on both audio and control voltage range wave forms, the most pronounced effect coming from low harmonic content waveforms like sine and triangle.'
It seems that they are different.
I only have experience with bananalogue and I'm very satisfied with the WVX and also with the VCS. They are very well build and they are very interesting modules.
Best,
Òscar. |

Metalbox's stuff, while okay seems to lack the sophistication of the Bananalogue stuff. Personally while I don't have experience of any of these, I'd go for the VCS and WVX too- simply because they are both cheaper and more versatile. _________________ ACHTUNG!

I think if you buy both you got al the waveshaper levels in from the Serge.

less can be more. but not always. i enjoy metalbox's demos much more than bananalogue. i'd love to have both but i'm convinced from the features listed and demos that i'd be happier with the metalbox.
the VCS shouldn't enter the conversation imo because it's not a wave mult.
glad i found this place. now i have one more spot to keep me from getting any work done _________________ http://www.kwotemusic.com

Welcome to the forums, Kwote. Hope to hear more about what you aren't doing. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.
