Sonobotanics Subject description: exhibition in Brussels (Belgium) and Pingjum (the Netherlands) |
 |
|
Calendar Event: May 4, 2008 - May 31, 2008 The sonobotanic plants, which some of you may have fond memories of from the Chateau Sonore last year, will be exhibited in May at two different locations:
First, every sunday afternoon in Pingjum, Friesland, the Netherlands. The location is in the centre of the village, right next to one of Netherlands' both smallest and best pizzeria's.
Second, in Brussels from May 17th to 31st at Okno, which is preceded by a workshop.
More information can be found on the sonobotanics website: http://www.sonobotanics.org |

BTW Pingjum looks like a 'terp' village to me, which is the man made hill on which the church is sited, just to the left of the arrow. |

Pingjum was one of the first places in the Netherlands, which got a Dijk around it, named the "Golden neckband" (freely translated). This was back in the 12th century or so.
The church is from around the same area. This church is also the one where the church reformer Menno Simons nailed his theses on the door, and Pingjum still has a hidden Mennonite church.
As the village is basically a monument, it is not spoiled by ugly new housing, as you find in many other villages.
It is also the village where I was born.
The exhibition is on the terp, right across from the church, so we should be save.
sincerely,
Marije
PS, Montreal is great! I had a lot of snow (more than in the rest of my life alltogether) and now they switched on the summer, which is nice too.
PPS, Jan, you might hook up with my brother to go there, or on the way back, since he also lives in Enschede. |

Pingjum is exceptionally safe to flooding. I discovered through intensive research that the wind actually comes from Pingjum.

Seems like you are right Kas ... that place is impossible to reach ... last week I was close (Zurich) but too late, this sunday I was in Drachten at my parent's place and wanted to go there with them ... car packed up and ready to go .. decently early ... then the neigbour's place catches fire, close enough to worry about my parent's place as well ... things didn't go too bad considering the thatched roofs everywhere, just the neighbour's barn burned down and not the farmhouse.
Maybe next week ... _________________ Jan

But I heard you made it eventually!
Thanks for that!
I was in Brussels at the time, so we may have communicated via the plants. |

We sure did!
It was nice to meet your dad there - he was running around with measuring equipment, and explaining everything nicely. Next time you should have the plants on the graveyard maybe _________________ Jan
