Hi all,
Recently I bought an new Mac and to my surprise the editor still seemed to work fine under Leopard. Only, double clicking the .pch files opens them with Textedit instead of the NM editor.

I know there was a trick to alter this with FileBuddy but as it has been many years since I last did that, I hope someone here can refresh my memory...

Hmm.. I´m actually using an old mac set up with OS9 for my NM-1.

Traditionally the mac os would use a creator code set in the file. 8BIM would be Photoshop. The NM.1 editor probably has its own code. OS X uses mainly extensions but at least in the early days it also used the creator code.

Try to do a "get Info" on a PCH file and tell that all files of this kind should open in the editor app? If that goes wrong then you can fix this.. no probs.

With FileBuddy you´ll see that all files actually have two codes.. the creator and kind. If you have a tool for reading the icon bundle objects in the OS 9 versions of the editor then you´ll find which file types the app produces. A file type short name ( as well as the creator code ) consists of 4 letters.

Off the top of my head.. Simple Text files would sport the creator code ttxt and TEXT as file type. I reckon you also might find the proper codes if you open any of the patch files that comes bundled with the Mac version of the editor. Hmm.. or create a patch file from scratch and see what happens?
