You could buy stuff like that in the late 60s and way into the early 80s. The serious lab gear whole salers and high end electronic parts boutiques would carry such stuff, but it was very expensive. Hobbyists could not afford such stuff unless they made it themselves. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Any good furniture maker should be able to do that, we still use these kinds of boxes in the broadcast industry for things like studio control panels for mixers and inter-coms. |

What I would like to find is the individual module cases, as I have a few modules I'm planning to build. Something cheap though, but all I can find is those nasty project cases you find in Maplin.
Great thread, I look forward to seeing your progress! |

im with you, those nasty boxes are cool some time but im trying to get more impressive cases. I've got a bid on ebay for some nice modular cases, plz dont out bid me. Seems exactly like the enclosure you get when you purchase a full voice of saturn box from curious inventor
But i guess your key search word would be SLOPED if you decided to do some hunting
I double checked who made the cases that im bidding on, hammond. They got some stuff on they're website that looks very tasty. the one i noticed looked the best was a desk modular, the picture is kinda misleadin i feel. It looks awesome wireframed, but have no real idea of the dimensions because i refuse to break out my ruler.
Hopefully i'll get another chance to go down into my school's prop shop and steal some more cool stuff. |

Brainstormer -- check Rapid in the UK (www.rapidonline) - they kick Maplin's sorry ass.
eg - Teko Slop Cases - not really big enough for decent modular stuff though...
And the sloped Hammond ones can be got from Farnell for sure (though they're not really cheap) and I think they're steel, so a bit hard to machine compared with aluminium. Same cases, I think, as Lovetone used.
Eg Hammond Console Case - I think 'Console' is also a good search word along with 'slope' - there are many different sizes of this sort of range, so maybe check the Hammond web first and then locate the particular model number you're after. _________________ http://www.bugbrand.co.uk

nice tip, thanks for sharing. I lost that ebay auction with the hammond cases, what a bummer, would have been nice to build some stuff into em.
Hey bug brand!
I got one for ya, if you are the same who runs the bugbrand site, any chance to get an audio clip of the 'workshop noise machine'? it looks awesome, and i've been trying to figure out how to build one from your schematics. any chance you got a pcb to sell? |

Heya! Yep, that's me!
Yeah, I've got WOM samples, but on a different page and only updated a bit later so maybe you missed 'em. There's three here:
http://www.bugbrand.co.uk/pages/sounddevices.htm#workshoposc
I've got 20 full kits with PCB & all parts packaged up and had meant to get 'em available a couple of weeks ago --- but I've also been trying to get a decent lot of documentation (building + electronics info + soldering info -- enough to cover even absolute beginners). I just need to do the final bits of writing and then they'll be available.
Cheers,

Judging by its overall appearance, the joinery and fasteners, and the fact it has no markings, that box was either home-made or, since you say you found it in a school, made on-site in the wood shop (if it's the kind of school that would have one).

bug- wow, checked out the clips- simply amazing. Keep up the awesome work, very inspirering
I tried posting a small ad on craigs list asking for help to build a case, but no dice, no one responded. I might have to post an ad on campus near the woodshop area. |
