Nord Lead 2 Problem with Performance Mode Subject description: I cannot save any of my sounds to performance mode! |
 |
|
I bought a used Nord Lead 2 a few months ago, and I cannot save any of my sounds to the Performance Mode options. I printed a manual for Nord Lead 2 off of Clavia's Swedish website, but even that is not giving me the help I need.
What I have done is picked my sounds for A and B or whatever I chose in Performance mode, and then I click store. I pick A1 or B1 to store it on, and I press store again. The A1 or B1 just blinks and nothing happens. I tried several other variations of this process and nothing works.
I would really appreciate it if some one can help me out! Thank you! |

I don't even know where to find it. This is the first synth I bought and even played on. |

Ok, it was a wild guess.I just now went through the manual and the word protect is not in it, so I talked nonsense I guess. Please wait till Wout shows up here, he'll know, erm, usually he does _________________ Jan

Zwooossssh!!!!!
Here he is...
NordLead man
Nah, just joking: went to bed early, I guess...
Anyway tokiarocks
The difference between the NordLead/NordLead2 and the NordLead2X is the latter has much more RAM memory. The first two models are only capable to use 40 memory locations in Program mode and NONE in Performance mode. Just realize the NordLead design is about 15 years old... Memory was expensive then...
So you want to save a Performance? You have two options. The first one, already in the design and using hardware: insert a PCMCIA-card in the slit at the back. If you card is much bigger then needed, never mind, because they are rather hard to find these days. They are the solution to a live gig. On a card there is extra memory available: 297 Programs (3 Banks) and 100 Performances (or 400 extra Program locations).
The second one is saving to the hard disc of your computer. Using software capable of reading SysEx data you can send the Performance to your computer by [Shift+Dump One] and save the file.
Any good sequencer software (like CuBase) can do this using *.mid files.
I use only one card to create a Bank I need at hand playing the synth and all other files are stored on my computer or are circulating somewhere on the net

Just another note...
Until you have purchased a PCMCIA-card or a software solution to record SysEx data on your computer, use the 40 Program locations to save the Performance single Programs there: activate the single Performance part > press [save] > leave Performance mode > scroll to one of the 40 locations > press [save]. The same to the other performance parts.
Later on you can restore the performance again and save it to the card or hard disc.
When creating Performances I just want to draw your attention to the Out mode. Slot A&B can use a different setting then Slot C&D, which can result in nice stereo sounds using normal stereo and alternating Outputs. Using headphones you'll go nuts
If you are on a Windows machine at
http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/020_NordLead2/023_Miscellaneous/NordGenerator_Editor/
you'll find a tool which can save Programs and also shows the settings of the parameters, so as a beginner you can easily study them. (The synth panel doesn't show the settings when loading a Program...)
More Programs (Patches) are at

Thank you! This explains why my teacher was stumped as well because he is used to the 2X. I have did some study on the card and know its hard to locate. At the same time, I have researched programs like Cubase, and i should probably start saving money (I'm a first year college student.. I don't even know where the money goes...).
Isn't there another name for the PCMCIA-card? Do you suggest any major retailers that may sell them? |

I just bought one from here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=400004567291
The card seems to work okay in my NR2 though I've only had the opportunity to format the card and save one patch to it in order to check that it works.
BTW - is it possible to view the contents of the card under Windows? I thought I would be able to copy patches onto it directly while it's plugged into my laptop, but Windows XP is not able to view the card. |
