sounds great! i was also thinking of adding a ring modulator, maybe have to redesign the panel to make room (maybe lose the fine tune for osc1), there's a few designs based on the MC1496 around the net, and others even simpler. do you have (perhaps a link to) the schematics you used for this one? |

Thanks kobresia!
I don't have the schematic for my ring mod anymore, but I may try and make a stripboard layout for it so you can copy it.
You can find Ken Stone's site here;
http://www.cgs.synth.net/
His stuff will blow your mind :) I especially like the idea of a module that ONLY sounds like a V8 engine!!!

Hey thanks v-un-v.
sounds nice. Nice tweaking on the delay. I already have my panel space
all layed out for the ring mod. So I reckon I'm gonna buy Ken Stones
unless you get a stripboard layout first . Thanks for posting that.
So how close are you on the old Soundlab, I'm eager to see it.

yeah- very FM sounding. I can't quite get that same sound from a modern 4-quad multiplier. But I think they have their uses too.
My soundlab? Well I'm still waiting for parts to arrive. The box has been a total nightmare- but its getting there. I'm also completely brassic- having to put lots of stuff on ebay right now. I'm gonna be selling some homemade theremin PCB's (pre drilled too) soon. I'll give you people first refusal if yr interested?

I'll post some info later. Right now I've got to go pick my girlfriend up from work.
I hear it's very hot right now in Ohio? It's been mad here to- especially after all recent the terrorist attacks. Only a mile away or so one of the would-be bombers has just been arrested by tazer gun, a lots of people are standing out in the streets!
At least its cooled down here now. Actually its almost cold!

Its hot as hell. It was 105 yesterday. Its the humidity thats the killer.
My thoughts go out to you and yours. Take care. Hey while I got you in here. I don't know if you saw my ques. about the sample and hold, but do you know if you can just hook it right up to the soundlab board for power or does it need its own power supply?
I'd be interested in one of them there theremin boards. My friend was going to by a Theremax kit and have me build it for him, but I'd sure like one too. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

Hi Zebra, I was really busy in the last weeks with my f***ing (ooopsss...) job... I'm gonna have a whole month of summer vacations so I have to do a lot of things before my company closes down...
really tired in these days... synth-diy activities suspended...
I think I will get back to building circuits during august... I wanna try to connect a S&H circuit to my WP20, and start building my Soundlab at least...
Hey v-un-v: a theremin PCB? it sounds really interesting... does it have a CV output? is it a difficult project?
take care guys...

Yeh f'ing work hear you there, but if it wasn't for my work right now
I wouldn't be able to participate in this forum. Don't have a computer at home right now, its broke. Well August isn't that far away. That Theremin boards got my interest peaked too.
Well, take care _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

can´t wait to hear more of those theremin boards -
the ring mod sounds really nice.
just noticed that on SL there is half LM13700 unused on IC3.
if you just cut the vials of pins 3 and 4 to ground (red line) and its good as new.
so i will try this Aaron Crams ring modulator schematic that uses half LM13700 .
(the PDF of the ring mod schematic is here Apache project)
on the LM13700 datasheet there are some interesting schematics - i just can´t sleep if there is half of IC unused
hope to get soon some samples of my SL (still some wiring to do)

Mosc, check these ones out too. They were taken by a friend who was looking after his brothers house- which was in the exact path of the twister;

I'm gonna upload some of my own soon too.

Tom,
so, your sample uses the same variety of Ring Mod as the one offered by Ken Stone?
Your recording sounds fantastic, and definitely different from a 633 type 4-Quadrant Multiplier, as you said. I haven't really heard much in the way of recordings of the CGS Ring Mod, but was under the impression--from descriptions-- that it was a kind of distorted/saturated sound and not like the clean sharp sound of your sample. Am I wrong about the CGS RM? Is it more like the RM in your sample probably? |
