Howdy everyone - I first stumbled on this site through the RSS feeds - which I highly recommend as a good way to keep on top of the forums, by the by - and now I'm finally getting around to joining up and participating.

I've been doing work with electronic/IDM/anti-IDM/experimental looping for since I was about 15 (now 23). What I'm hoping for out of this community is, I think, exactly in line with what the community is trying to accomplish - the synthesis (sic) of old directions, and the exploration of new ones.

Here is my question - how many people out there are dance/beat-centric, and how many are abstraction-centric? Like I said, I've been reading the forums for a while, and listening to tracks some, but I'm still having a hard time getting a handle on everyone's fundamental allegiances..

Alright champ.

Regarding your question, I think the originators of the site are in the abstract camp, although there's plenty of us dance junkies kicking around as well. You'll find all sorts here! Very Happy

Word and that

Good answer - anyone around who still loves the old Trackers like Fast Tracker? I finally had to give up on mine with my new machine - couldn't get the legacy drivers to work with any of them.

welcome

I'm certainly not in the dance camp, although I'm on a personal mission to learn to enjoy it as much as I can. The spirit of this site is mutual respect and support, which by it very nature attracts people who want to expand their musical horizons. So it looks like you came to the right place.

When you mention tracker music, one member comes to mind, Static Strobe Emitter. Check out his stuff on his artists forum, http://electro-music.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=82 He's even posted some tracker files there. I've been facinated by this technology for many years but never jumped in and gave it a try.

Maybe if there is enough interest, we could start a "trackers corner" forum, who knows.

You can hear a little bit of my music at my artist's forum here: http://electro-music.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

No problem. I'm in DC, but I've only been here a few months. I am Seattle born and raised. I wonder what Kurt Cobain would have sounded like with 8 bit synths?

Probably like a more melancholy Kraftwerk, now that I'm thinking about it.

Trackers. I use to use them all the time when I was a teenager, but I use Cakewalk nowadays.

Hardliner, who lives at http://www.cnidarian.org/ posted some tracks he did on a tracker a little while back. You can get them off his site. I absolutely love them, as you can tell by the quote of mine he has put on his front page...

I'm an old punk/hardcore guitarist who does experimental/noise guitar work now. So that might put me into an even smaller scene!?! I appreciate IDM and beat-centric stuff, but prefer to listen to glitchy/abstract/noise. I think we're all open minded. I make it a point to not align myself with any genre. An "anti-genre" genre?! Heh. It's ALL electronic music.

I like electronic dance music, specially that which uses innovative synthesis /production. I also like abstract electronic music.
I suppose my ideal would be abstract electronic dance music, for those who like to dance in a very strange way.

Hey there!

I've been a long-term tracker user (try Renoise, it offers full Windows and VST support), but since I got hip to Ableton Live 4 I haven't looked back. I might look back once I get back into micro-programming drums etcetera.

Welcome to the forums!

Renoise looks pretty great - just based on their own website. Does it have any significant downsides, other than having to pay for it?
