Wiimote in osculator Subject description: Low budget brilliance |

Just tested Osculator with my Wiimote to the Nord Modular G2. It worked nicely! I'm attaching a sound sample and the patch I used for the Norders. While this is in no way impressive musically (I have never tried a Theremin or any non-discrete instrument, and I have only tested this for a a couple of minutes), it shows that if you have a Mac, a synth and a Wiimote (which I would guess is a great deal less costly than your average accelerometer based music controller), your possibilities for expression just upped quite a bit.
Most of all, it installed easily, and was configured easily once I understood that all you have to do is hold down 1 +2 while osculator starts. Oh, and they have support for the sensor bar as well, with a little bit of DIY soldering.

I noticed this in a post about Kyma in the Nord Wave topic. Don't be confused about all the talk about Kyma and OSC in osculator's homepage, it configures a MIDI device automatically that you can patch through MIDI Patchbay (http://pete.yandell.com/software/) or to a softsynth.
Maybe this topic should be posted in the "Mac as a DAW" section instead, but I figured it would be of interest to everyone to see that this is possible in a cheap user friendly app.

wiimote + osculator + G2 |
 |
|
hi,
i'm trying to get a very similar setup to this working. however, i can't seem to get my G2 to receive any data.
-in OSCulator i have mapped the pitch from the wii-mote to midi cc 22.
-in the Modular Editor, i have the frequency for a lo pass filter set to midi cc 22
no responses in the Modular Editor.
are you piping data from OSCulator to a midi interface and then to the G2? how are routing the cc data from OSCulator to your midi interface?
any help is greatly appreciated |

You should indeed send your MIDI data to the synth. You can't MIDI control the G2 through it's editor and the USB link. How OSCulator should be set up to send out MIDI data would be a question for someone familiar with the program ... but usually there is a configuration setting to select a MIDI port. Also you'll have to set the MIDI channel to be the same on the sending and receiving end (for the G2 this can be done through the editor's synth setup menu, independently for each slot). _________________ Jan

hi Blue Hell, thanks for the response.
an app called MIDI patchbay was what i was missing -- allowed me to route midi cc data from OSCulator to midi interface.
MIDI patchbay...

Glad you got it working. I now see that you've been around for quite a while already before posting your 1st message here _________________ Jan
