Geez, I am blown away by the price of $5.00 USD for one socket. I just soldered mine in on all the projects that use this form factor. Chances are it will never go bad or you will ever need to pull it out.

Thats just me of course .... Wink

Thanks "Adam-V" for the P/N reference ... I will post this number for the socket on my SN76477 chip sale post. The socket will be half the cost of the chip .... Laughing

Thanks
Bill

When I bought them were $2.78(US) a piece but that was two years ago. Remember that they are high quality machined sockets not those cheap folded leaf ones.

Sorry Luke, I bought my batch of 10 two years ago and they're all marked for use I'm afraid. Yep, I still haven't built my SN-Voices yet!

Cheers,
Adam-V
Too many projects too little time.

I suppose you have to think of it like this (or at least this is how I look at it).
Essentially the SN Voice is a Blacet Dark Star Chaos on STEROIDS! The only reason you'd ever want to replace the SN7 chip would be because it had just died? But apart from static, these are pretty reliable chips. So personally I will do exactly what Bill suggests, solder that f**kker it right in, and forget the socket. After all, who is ever going to want to pop that chip out to ever put in anything else?! Wink Cool

Such a shame the SN Voice is called....well the SN voice. It's so dull ain't it? I wish it had some sexy name like "Dark Star's Revenge" or whatever Question Sad

SN could stand for any Stupid Name you care to think of -
Strange Nebula
Saucy Nymph
Shub-Niggurath (for the Lovecraft fans among us)
Sweet Napalm
Sonic Nemesis
Skywalker's Nob.....
