Nord Rack 2X midi thru question Subject description: Ability to provide midi-through functionality |
 |
|
Hi,
I'm thinking of buying Clavia Nord Rack 2X. I love its sound, but I'm confused by the absence of any info according to midi thru functionality in this hardware. I understand, that sometimes it's possible to have it even without dedicated MIDI port (my Juno-G, for example, supports MIDI through from MIDI IN to MIDI OUT).
Let me explain why is it important for me:
I'm not a fun of doing music on a computer. Yes, I use it as a DAW (as audio recorder, sound processor (mixer), mastering gear), but I'm happy with composing using my Juno-G sequenser and DR-880 drum machine. The problem is that I don't have any MIDI routing hardware. In my case Juno syncs DR-880 via MIDI (Start/Stop, Position, Clock sync, etc). But DR-880 doesn't transfer my sync events to its MIDI OUT port (it simply can't do that ). I'm affraid that if Nord Rack 2X isn't able to pass through MIDI sync events from MIDI IN to MIDI OUT I'll not be able to use drum machine and Nord Rack 2X at the same time with my sequenser.
I'll be happy to know that I'm wrong and MIDI-Through is supported by Nord Rack. If I'm right, does anybody have any suggestions on how to be in such case? Do I have to buy something like UM-550 to have in sync 3 devices?
Thank you! |

The NordLead2(X) doesn't have MidiThrough, so you have to use a MidiThrough Box. The UM-550, which I never used, looks like a very flexible Midi routing box, but I advise you to look around and compare very well regarding possibilities and prices. Let you being advised by a good retailer rather then the internet

I never use Midi mergers, so to the MU-550 you have to look in the manual. What I saw from it it could be a very flexible tool.
But...
Isn't Max/MSP capable to merge?
Perhaps a question in http://electro-music.com/forum/forum-73.html ?

D'oh !!
Where is my head sometimes ?!!
Yes of course, I just tried it (running everything through Maxmsp from my 2 USB ports) on the my friend's nord 2 and voilà !
My controller is my keyboard instead of the one on the nord. And I can send controller values from max @ the same time.
Thank Wout, you just saved me 100$ for my lack of attention.
I owe you one. Thanks .
Although I must note that a good chance my computer had 2 usb in's
For anybody interested the max msp objects are;
[ctlin] [ctlout] [notein] [noteout]
thanks again
