Another hand in the Sex Album......... |
 |
|
Hello.
Quite a nice forum y'all have here.
A couple of posts down you will find jessicavale's introductory post. I won't push the recod here as she is doing fine by herself. But I'd like to say that I produced it with her and it's work I'm very, very proud of.
Otherwise, I'm a producer/engineer/sessioon musician in NYC. Lately, I haven't really listened to music for pleasure - except maybe Kool Keith. Unfortuantely, working on music all the time has greatly diminished my joy in listening to it recreationally. Anyone else find this?
Holla if ya hear me. |

to the electro-music.com forum. Glad to have you here. Great job on Jessica's music, BTW.
Your comment is pretty interesting about losing enthusiasm for listening when you work at music commercially all day. I have experienced that myself way back when I was doing commercial music for a living. I took an extreme action and started a career as an electrical engineer, partially to make more money and partially because I wanted to get away from music as a money making activity.
Now I'm retired from electrical engineering and really enjoying music again, both listening and making it. This web site has helped greatly to get exposed to different types of music, not just listening to it, but talking to the artists and getting to know them. That is real music appreciation.
I live in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Maybe someday soon we can meet face to face. Until then, try hanging out here and listen to some of the music of our members, a very talented bunch. _________________ --Howard

Welcome!
Yep - I've gotten burned out on music more than once - which is why I keep it as more of my "passionate hobby" than "the thing I make a living off of..."
Actually, I took a 4 year break from 92-96 after 7 years of fairly constant gigging (the good old going nowhere but having fun, well, most of the time - type of gigging.) Now I write when I want to - and I write only what I feel like writing - collaborate every so often, but nothing permanent anymore. I have infinitely more fun and feel much more creative, and frankly have been more successful with it since I pushed it into more of the background. (Then again - my definition of success may be different than others...)
Yes, I know I'm weird, but I don't think I could do music full time - I love it too much.
As far as listening goes - yes, I tire of certain artists or types of music from time to time - and just changing it up a bit makes a world of difference to me. |

I wonder what exactly meant producing this kind of album "with her" ...anyway

Such vivid imaginations around here, damn. It meant helping place all the microphones around our bizarre, yet willing helpers... |

Such a lovely, warm, welcoming bunch. Tears.
Thank you for your kind remarks. I haven't had a chance to check out everyone elses music, though i very much look forward to it.
mosc, I dig what you say about getting to know the artist who create the music you enjoy. I find art to be entirely contextual, so I agree that the more "frame" (in Eno's words), the better. And Allentown is pretty close, I'm sure we'l;l meet someday.
<joke> seraph, I take it you're the resident pervert. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. </joke>
gsga, what can I say? Nice to see other Keith fans out there.
And electro80, to pick up on something you said in another thread - I never thought of it as Musique Concrete, and I doubt that Mr. Henry et al. would necessarily align themselves with my work. I mean, at the end of the day, I'm a total "pop slut". But at the very least I can use the phrase to annoy that community - though I enjoy much of their output, as a whole I find them to be experimental in theory but very, very conservative in the way they relate to the rest of the creative world.
Anyway, happy to be here. |

There is more to this than the academic art music angle only. One alternative lineage of electronic music/ processed sound is the late 50s/early 60s fad of radiophonic studios. One that became very famous ASAP was the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. A lot of the output from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop is 200% fab. Do check out the music made by Delia Derbyshire. David Vorhaus produced his first LP there, "White Noise: An Electric Storm" as a joint project with the guys and gals at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Recommended listening! _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
