Hi everyone,

I just put a down payment on NI Komplete 5, which in Canada is going for about $525.00. There's only one catch: I don't have a computer that can run all this stuff properly, in real time. So, I thought I'd ask about for suggestions. Here's what I was thinking:

1) Get one of the new Mac Book Pros that are going for about $1300, and put 4GB of ram in it. ( I will be using Kontakt and Akoustic Piano live and in the studio too, ideally)

2) Get a new Receptor Pro whatever is out. I think these are around $3000 here... for the latest and greatest ones. There are some Receptor Pro Jr's around that can be had for MUCH less.

3) Open Labs Neko... either the new tabletop module, or one of the 3 octave keyboard models... Price???

I haven't had a lot of experience with computers for running soft synths, I just have an old Powerbook G4 that I use with Logic for recording. If any one has any experience with these rigs, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a ton,

Peter .

My experience with soft synths is that too much computer power is never enough. So I always want the most computing horsepower I can get.

And that can get expensive. Since I'm cheap with money (I'm an amateur, not a pro), I get the most bang for the buck by buying standard computers. So I'd go for the Mac Book Pro.

There's other stuff to consider, though, such as whether you'll be playing live, whether you're looking for a keyboard, etc.

I don't see myself using Reaktor a whole lot live, but I can definitely see myself getting down with Akoustic Piano, Electric Piano, B4, Battery and Kontakt for live settings. I don't need an attached keyboard; I could make some pretty serious custom templates on my G2x Wink

Has anyone had any experience with solid state hard drives? They're an option for the new Macs, but GOD they're expensive. Is the extra reliability worth it??
