Is the same delay there when cotrolling the synth using a Midi keyboard?
If not the problem is the laptop.

hey
i'm still having problems with the sound when running the synth into ableton live. will this be due to the midi interface that i'm using or just settings in ableton?

Are you talking about midi latency (midi notes recorded late) or Audio latency (Notes sounding late)?

when i map out midi notes on ableton and run it into the nord then the notes aren't responding in time to a 4/4 beat as they should be

How are you listening to the audio out from the Nord?

Is it going through Ableton like this:

Ableton Midi Track -> Nord -> to Ableton audio track -> to master and your monitors?

Or like this:

Ableton Midi Track -> Nord -> amp/monitors

Have you looked in:

Live->preferences->Audio.

Here you can choose your audio device and set the buffer size, use the smallest setting you can that doesn't crackle.
