Please Help!! I can't get my nord rack 2X working in Logic |
 |
|
I've recently got myself a Nord rack 2X synth and an M-Audio Axiom49 midi controller. I am still using Logic Pro 7 and I use a Mackie Spike interface. I'm having trouble getting the Nord to work in Logic.
I think it's a setting in Logic that i need to sort out to get the Nord working. This is as far as I've got...
I have Midi Out from the Axiom connected to Midi In on the Nord. Then Midi out from The Nord into Midi In on the Spike. I also have Midi Out from the Spike connected to Midi In on the Axiom to create a loop. (I don't know if this is needed??)
I'm afraid that is as far as I can go with it, I can't seem to get any sound coming out when in Logic. I'm sure it'll be to do with the Midi settings but I just can't work out what to do.
If somebody could please talk me through what I need to do next I'd be very grateful! Thanks. |

Hi,
Your MIDI setup is not quite right.
The MIDI out on your 2x will not forward the MIDI in stream. The out will only have data originating from the 2x rack unit, such as CC from knob movements, etc.
MIDI through (thru) will usually forward all data at MIDI in, but not merge with the MIDI out data. Normally, an additional MIDI merge device is needed for that. Some (few) synths include a MIDI merge mode.
The usual way to do this, is MIDI out from keyboard to MIDI in on computer interface. MIDI out from computer interface to MIDI in on keyboard. MIDI through on keyboard to MIDI in on rack synth. The MIDI stream from your control keyboard can be sent to Logic, and echoed back to the keyboard, then passed from the keyboard's MIDI through port to your 2x MIDI in port.
Unfortunately, in this configuration, the data originating from your 2x will not enter Logic. Only data from the keyboard will be seen by Logic. You may need to check settings for 'local on' on your keyboard, and MIDI echo in Logic. Many DAWs will echo incoming MIDI to the MIDI port/channel of whichever track is selected in the sequencer.
If you have more than one MIDI port available on your computer's MIDI interface, then you could have more than one instrument with bidirectional MIDI connection. I'm not familiar with your interface, though I'm sure you could check on it's capabilities.
Let us know how it goes, and if you have further questions.
Cheers,
