Setting up the front panel knobs to control VSTs in Reaper |
 |
|
This is a question I asked in a different thread and I didn't want to hijack it so I started a fresh one here.
I'd like to use all of the Andromeda's lovely front panel knobs to control VSTs in Reaper. I have set the front panel knobs to send MIDI, but when Reaper receives data it makes the virtual knob jump and skip in very erratic ways... it's receiving something but doesn't know what to do with it.
Anyone done this successfully? Is there a special setting on the Andromeda I'm missing or a setting in Reaper I'm missing? I'm new to Reaper and trying it out since it sounds like you can use the Andromeda's knobs... something I couldn't do in Live. |

As my reply to the other thread is relevant here too, I'll just do a copy and paste job!

In Reaper, you can record the MIDI data and the Andromeda will respond correctly upon playback but as it's MSB/LSB stuff (NRPNs I think), Reaper can't quite make sense of it so you have no envelope to speak of, editing is therefore impossible.
Personally, I've always recorded such controller data on separate tracks and overwritten sections of it if I've needed to. As a result, I've never tried editing it.
As far as automating VSTs and the like from the Andys controls, I can't do that in either Reaper or Sonar (I'm still using Sonar 4 BTW so things may have changed by now). In Reaper, I get very erratic knob movements and in Sonar, while it will learn, it only gives my the first 25% of any control.
I must admit that I've never tried doing this with the Andy until now, I've almost always used my EX7 for controlling things like that. |

| Thanks for trying that out, Shreddie... you got the same results I did. |
