hi there everybody!

i am curious if anybody has an idea about my following plan: i would love to triger clips/midinotes (in ableton live) via incoming audio (voice for instance). i don't really need audio pitch to corresponding midi pitch - much better could work something like different input volume creates different midi-events (some kind of accidental).
i thought that maybe my nord modular g2 (which i haven't used in ages and somehow forgot about how to program it) could help me with that. is there a way to plug my guitar or mic in and have my desired result? to not create midi chaos (in case there are six string ringing at the same time) i though of a kinf of theshold - below it no midi note being created, above it depending on the volume dirfferent midi notes...
do i sound realisitic? Wink

any hints highly appreceated!

lars

Have a look at:

yeah thanks.
still this looks very complicated. all i need is some audio to cc that works more velocity-orientated without exact pitch tracking, you know.

ok folks,

i attached a simple patch explaining my needs. it is just made up very roughly. i just need your advise now concerning velocity control. it would be great to have different incoming velocities transforming into different midinotes. any ideas?

thanks alot,
laurentius

A couple of window-switches should do this job for you! Just rectify the signal first so it is just positive. Just put it in parallel after the envelope-follower.

Or just pipe the EnvFollow output straight into the velocity input. Smile That's always positive. I also inserted a delay - there may be a little while before the signal reaches its peak amplitude, and <10 ms may go by unnoticed. I fiddled with the channel too for testing, you need to change it back to 1.

thanks for your answers.
still needed: the midi note output shoul be influenced by the incoming velocities. like low velocitiy triggers midinote c, and high velocity triggers midinote d.
what also doesnt work for me yet is that a midisignal is sent constantly when there is audioinput. what i would need is a kind of "one shot" that only triggers once with each peak and then waits for a break before the next peak....

get pure data (open source version of maxmsp), and search for an object called "fiddle". that works for converting audio to midi... I believe it uses a fast fourier transform... for the velocities you will have to code it... or in this case draw the diagrams or whatever they call it with that program....

I think that's the easiest way.

The other way would be to code it from scratch using chuck, sc3, java ... babalablabalabalbala

cheers
