CHINESE ELECTRONIC MUSIC

I'm looking for electronic non-commercial music from China for a docu movie related to Chinese modern art.
Any style. Where can I listen to some samples?

I have a contact in the electronic music studios at the Beijing Central Conservatory. I took the liberty of sending him the question -- I don't know if he can help you or not, but I thought it would be worth asking.

Dou Wei's (Faye Wong's ex-husband) got a couple of albums that are minimalist ambient/electronic.

The Chinese is not known for electronic music--if anything, most of the Chinese underground scene is either metal or rap, maybe some industrial. Pure electronic music not as much.

Hey, no sh@@, this is good stuff!

Not quite two years ago, I went to the MusicAcoustica conference at the Central Conservatory in Beijing. Some of the composition students there are quite sophisticated with the electronics. I remember a trumpet and tape piece by one young lady that was firmly in the University "composer-music" tradition, but despite that managed some impressive surprises (and it was technically strong to boot).

So maybe you don't see it now, but it's coming.

Gear prices are one inhibiting factor. A $1000 synth here in the US would cost 7000-8000 yuan there, which would be a significant investment for a typical middle-class income in Chinese cities.

bump after two years. Glad you did. Tell me more about this Chinese industrial scene, because the genre is well dead in north America and I'm lukewarm on the European take on it.
