Stage 88 EX - Sustain pedal behaving strangely on pianos?? |
 |
|
Hi,
I got a Stage 88 EX and was quite disappointed regarding the piano sounds. When playing the acoustic pianos and using the sustain pedal it happens that when releasing the pedal for a short moment there is a glitch in the volume - the volume goes down for a short moment then returns.
For example: play a chord with pressed sustain, then play another chord and directly after pressing the new chord release the sustain. That is the situation when it happens - but not always. Seems to be more easy to hear when using "Dynamic 2 or 3", seems to happen more often when before playing the second chord other notes are played (just bow over the beyboard - the important thing seems to be that the polyphony of the stage is exhausted in the moment the second chord comes into play).
Anyone knows the problem? Is it my playing?
Thanks,
Tobias |

That's strange. First thing I would do is a) make sure you're plugged into the correct pedal input, because it sounds like your pedal might be plugged into an expression pedal input, where it causes a switch in volume or something.
B) try a different pedal and see if the problem continues. Also, check the polarity and type of pedal you're using in the menu.
I only mentioned the first point just because I have no way of knowing how experienced you may or may not be. Although it seems like an obviouis thing, it's an easy mistake for newbies to make.
Finally, you could try c) doing a factory reset and seeing if it's all good.
BTW, do you have the most recent OS in your unit? I think they're up to 4.02...
Good luck,
Peter |

Hi,
thanks for your remarks. In fact - this is a very old post . I have returned the Stage to my dealer one day after my post.
It turned out, that the strange noises (sounding like a limiter with a low threshold) came from the release samples of the instrument. Clavia told me, they want it like that and I told them that I like release-samples but not if they sound like a bug - so I returned the device.
Best Regards,

This is the one thing that drives me nuts about my new NE3... Only posting so that people considering this unit can take it in to consideration.
For me it's a compromise I'm willing to live with. The NE is my portable, lightweight, all in one box.
If I want great piano response and fidelity, I lug an 88 key weighted controller and a laptop running True Pianos. |
