Hello you great musicians out there. I love you all.

I am 50 years old (!), from Oslo Norway. I've played guitar since I was 15. When I was 16 (living on an island in the upper North of Norway) I played drums in a cover-band ("Alice") for a while. That was great fun. It was those Glamrock days. We played Sweet, Nazareth, Stones - things like that. Got to play on the radio, before it was over.

Now I've put together a home-studio in my bedroom, to try to see if I can manage to be a songwriter. I play a little bit piano, but I newly bought one and now I'm trying to learn. I am always all alone musically - I have no one to play with, so it is fine to be able to at least talk about music with someone on the net from time to time.

My favorite music is mainstream rock as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Bad Company, Grand Funk, Thin Lizzy, Dire Straits, Sweet, T-Rex, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Stones, J. Joplin, Doors, Grateful Dead etc.
I also like some pop (as Elton John) and some punk, reggae, blues etc.
I'm a huge fan of Donovan, Nina Hagen, and Creedence & John Fogerty not to forget (high quality music in other words).
Well, that's me. Have a nice day Surprised

glamrock, you are no loger alone.

Here you will find community and kindred spirits.

I too am a fan of classic rock and the list of performers that you mention is the top of my list. I always answer these newbie posts and don't understand the music that they claim to be formative for them, but yours I know. If you could see my iTunes collection you'd like it.

Best to ya man and know that you are among friends.

It's good to see another countryman here, I'm from Oslo myself Smile
Oh, and I grew up listening to some of the same rock bands.

- I'm pleased to meet you guy's.

Inventor - you really seem to be a big veteran here.
I've listened to your Game Show. That was freaky! Was it your wife in the background? Well, it sounded to me like a wife. I've not recorded mine yet, but maybe I will - when I get myself a echo machine.

Dr Justice - Fellow countryman/citizen - Norway Rocks. Thanks for the welcome.

Funny I listened to you both.
The first - Inventor - had a tune so long I had to stop (it's getting late) - how long is it? One hour?
The second Dr Justice - so short tune - only tre seconds I guess.
LOL Surprised

My songs I think often gets to long. 8 to 12 minutes is most usual. That's because my lyrics are like stories. Must have a beginning a middle and a end, and must be rounded up in the end to make some sense. I've found out that so long songs means so much work, so from now on I will do my very best to try to make them shorter.
I've made some songs, but refrains - I've tried but that is the most tricky
bit it seems. But a refrain in a 12 minute long song will make it even longer, so I've just dropped that. I write songs in English, and on rhyme. It's not so easy when English is not my first language I use daily. But I try to do my best anyway. I think it's fun, and that's the most important - ain't
that right? O.K. See ye later guys - Good Night.

glamrock, hehe - No, Sunshine is not my wife! I sometimes call her my wife for fun though, but we are really only just friends. The show is normally one hour but we did a 90 minute show last time. That reminds me, I still need to upload the latest show.

Can you post some of your music? I'd like to play it on the Game Show.

Ah, yes... Laughing - some of the audio files posted by members are just sound examples that accompany discussions we have. Others are full length tunes. I guess you've found the little "audio files" link in the user info to the left (BTW, I have a full length tune there, 3rd one down). Many user also have a WWW link in the signature below the postings, often leading to more tunes on their home pages, myspace pages etc.. Near the top of the page you will also find a "Media" link which brings up a list of sound files posted in the various sub forums - you can choose the sub forums in the menu above the listing.

And of course you can post your own songs in the "Online Music" sub forum, or anywhere else in the context of the discussions. You can upload songs as attachments or use links to external songs elsewhere on the web. We'd love to hear some of yours! thumright

Thanks Danno - Thanks Rain Surprised

Inventor - You've got to wait for me to post my stuff. I've been working very slowly but consistently for about two years now writing lyrics, putting up a home-studio, and recording songs to make some kind of demo, but I am not quite ready yet. Time slips away. I guess I'll be ready in the beginning of 2010, and I think there will be 2 if not 3-4 CD's filled. Then I guess I will post something (if I dare ...). But I can post some lyrics soon if you might be interested. By the way - is there a special section here for posting lyrics? I could need some feedback and advices from someone who has English as mother- language. Maybe my lyrics seems a bit corny or maybe they're to blunt - I don't know.

Dr Justice - thanks for enlighten me - I need some time to get to find my way around here.
Rock on.

glamrock, it just so happens that we started a Lyrics thread in the Schmooze forum just recently. Please feel free to post lyrics to that thread so they are all organized in one place for folks to enjoy.

Also, I look forward to hearing and with your permission airing your music on the Game Show! Catch you later man.

"When one area faded" - now I've listened to that. Oh yeah, good stuff. I liked that. What kind of synth do U use? Drum machine? What do you record with? Pro tools?
My "studio" is still very small & limited. Here's what I've got:

Martin acoustic guitar
Epiphone Les Paul " Joe Perry
Clavia Nord Electro 2 keyboard
Dr. Rythm 670 Drum machine
Shure 57 - 58 (think I'll buy a SE Electronics 2200a Studio Cond. Mic
sooner or later, I've heard they're good for the money).
Recording I do not with PC, but with a Tascam DP02 8 track sequencer -(+amplifier and studio monitors).
That is mainly the gear I got so far. I'm not rich so I must take it slow and easy and be moderate (after all I shall on vacation to lovely Positano Italy with my woman & my 19 y.old son this summer).javascript:emoticon('Cool')
I'd like to hear what you've got.

Thanks glamrock! Smile That was made together with a friend. We used a bunch of synths, among them Korg Mono/Poly, Roland JD-990, JX-8P, D5, MKS-30, Ensoniq VFX... It's a long time ago, can't remember exactly. We also used an Atari with Cubase sequencer, and recorded to DAT.

The Tascam DP-02 looks cool. Should cover recording just fine. Since you play guitar, you should check out the Strings and things sub forum, if you haven't already...

wow! - so many synths - do U have a music-store or what?
What kind of synth/synths do you got today then?
(If I was a rich man I would buy a moog. So amazingly cool.)

The DP02 is O.K., I'm quite happy with it, but when I work with it it have a tendency to get hanged up from time to time. I got the message "Not stopped" and nothing works, so I have to unplug it and start it all over again. At first it was very annoying, but now I've learned to do the saving more often. Otherwise it is fine and easy to use.

At first I was not so keen on sitting making music glaring into a PC screen, so I bought this thing. Now I've changed opinion a little bit, because I see so many amazing things one can do with EZ drummer and Guitar Rig, and I realize - as so many use Pro Tools and programs like that - it must be great stuff. So by time I must get me a PC I can use for the bedroom studio. (But first of all I must get myself a decent studio mic.)

But (!) 2 weeks ago the living room PC got almost completely stuck - so I had to buy a new one. Someday soon my woman (the data expert) will try fix the old one, and if she succeeds - then I've got a PC to use for my studio. For the time being I have no hurry, doing just fine with the Tascam DP02.
Well, Enough chit chat for this time. See ya.

Hey this thread is about you, my friend... but sure, a synth list, why not: Roland JD-990, Roland MKS-30, Yamaha TX81Z, Waldorf Q, Waldorf Rack Attack, Kurzweil K-2000, Kawai K5000, Ensoniq VFX, Korg Mono/Poly, Clavia Nord Modular, Soundart Chameleon, Roland VG-99. Even though some gear lists may seem overwhelming at first, they're often the result of 20-30 years, or more, of collecting and equipping a studio - I don't think there are many rich people here, and I suspect there's been made a few sacrifices.

Mmmm yes, a Moog... They're not the cheapest synths around, but you can get their Little Phatty new for around NOK 10.000. A used Minimoog can also be had for around that with some luck.

I had a look at the Tascam site for a firmware upgrade, but there doesn't seem to be any yet. Perhaps you should report the problem to Tascam, then it might be fixed in a future upgrade.
