Subject description: knocked off the stand...

One of the keys on my NL2 was broken when it was knocked off the stand yesterday. Everything seems to be working just fine except that one of the keys (a white one) is now sticking up about 2 inches in the air. It still plays when you press it down but when you release it, it pops back up in the air.

I'm figuring on replacing it myself -- I need to know where to get a replacement key (I'm in Portland, OR, USA) and if anyone has replaced a key before, your insight on the job could be very helpful.

Thank you!

Well, you have to take it out anyway, so you have to open the synth.
Take a look at the next post, http://electro-music.com/forum/post-272084.html#272084 in which is a zip file containing an article about changing the Keyboard into a weighted one, but it also shows how to remove the keys. Just check if the 'hook' underneath key in the front isn't broken. If so, remove the key and tell what key it is. Is written on the back where the spring is attached.

Good luck,

Wout

The hook indicated by the area in the photo is in fact broken off. it is a very clean break so I am considering using some krazy glue -- not an ideal fix obviously, but I may make the gamble that it will hold if only for the fact that I have a show tomorrow night.

The key is F1. If it is possible to locate one in Portland, I'd go buy it right now... Not sure exactly where to start though.

If you haven't done the gluing yet, and if there's room: add a small washer across the break, then glue it. This will add some strength to the fix.

there wasn't room, in fact the slight roughness of the edges where the super glue had squeezed out made the key stick and i had to sand it down to it's former smoothness after it had dried. All is well now though, it is holding and plays just like always. I should probably replace that key anyhow, I'd hate for it to break again at an inopportune time.
