To top it all off, each new Dark Fire also comes with Gibson's new Robot Interface Pack (RIP for short), a small box about the size of a pack of playing cards that functions as a studio-quality preamp, firewire computer interface, digital hex-pickup breakout box and so much more.

Bah! It's the same every time they make anything other than the same old 1959 replica. Whining and moaning. What a pompous and boring lot.

I really like that guitar. In fact I want it. It is the second generation of the Dark Fire concept.

Yep we did, my memory is shite!

I didn't know about the firewire/13 pin breakout box then though.

The problem seems that Gibson haven't used the same 13 pin as Roland and you need a converter cable that seems hard to get hold of.

The Dusk tiger is going to be £2799.99 in the UK.

I must admit the looks are growing on me.

Major difference seem to be switchable low/high impedance pickups and the fact you actually get a lead to connect to roland 13 pin devices, something that never got provided to many unhappy dark fire owners!

And a price rise!

In a moment of severe weakness I just ordered a Dusk Tiger.

Hopefully should have it before Christmas.

My first ever Gibson!

Congrats! That's well rad, Andy! thumleft

Where did you order from? Wish I could order one, but it'll have to wait.

I'm loving the looks myself. I couldn't care on jot what the hordes of grumpy naysayers think - in fact, all that only makes it even cooler in a rebellious way, and I do tend to side with the underdog Cool

Its all got a sort of perverted feeling about it, maybe something a lounge guitarist would play in a brothel.

Actually I should start looking at the small adds maybe there is a job going, I wouldn't mind working in a brothel.

Couple of things to look out for in the Dusk Tiger, from another forum:

"XLR microphone cables which will allow you to plug directly into sound boards" - Gibson's ad copy

Translation: standard Mic cables will not work. You might need a custom XLR Male to XLR Male cable - estimated to be available summer 2010.

"Finally, Gibson is including a MIDI out cable as part of the package." - Gibson ad

Translation: Gibson is including a Roland 13 pin cable, not a MIDI cable. No MIDI out on the Dusk Tiger

Somewhere in the same thread I was quoting from is a link to a rather nasty Gibson story. Suffice it to say Inventor and others who are looking to develop a musical product should think twice about signing with Gibson, should Gibson come knocking on their doors.

Man, you are so true...

Gibson can steal our invention if they wish, we are not patenting it. There is no time or inclination or budget to protect our IP. I can only say that if a guitar company wishes to incorporate our design ideas into their products, it behooves them to throw a little cash the electro-music way. Anything else would be a travesty of justice and we'd balk to the community in response.

Les

p.s. call me an idealistic fool, but if they steal it they'll end up with egg on thir faces...

Ah here's the story I found:

http://web.archive.org/web/20010423234143/http://stephengoldin.com/gibson/technohick01.html

"The Sordid and True Story of the OB-Mx"

I always knew you were a smart guy, Les. Cool Definitely not the type to submit oneself to being forced to use inferior parts and surrender all credit to some manager who had curried favor with the boss.

I don't work for The Man anymore. I get disability for being a schizophrenic. In this way, my curse is my blessing for I do not want and I have my freedom of time, though bound by poverty.

I hear that the patent office is doing nice things lately, like accepting non-legaleze documents from people and lowering their fees. Perhaps I should rethink things.

I've been burned on patents so now I say WTF? and just share my designs on electro-music for all to enjoy. What is better, freedom and joy, or legalities? I choose the former not the latter.

Les

Yep I have seen that site, there seem to have been a fair amount of people stung by Gibson over the darkfire especially with the unavailabilty of the conversion cable to roland 13 pin, lets hope the dusk tiger works out better.

A Male to Male XLR cable is easy to get hold of and 13 pin is what I am after so no moans from me yet, fingers crossed!

Hopefully Gibson will change its ad so that less technically knowledgeable Dusk Tiger buyers won't be upset that they can't plug the guitar directly into a MIDI In port.

How many times have we seen someone pick up a "MIDI guitar" and then find out he/she didn't get the MIDI converter box?

Fender at least calls their Roland-ready Strats "Roland-ready" Strats, not MIDI Strats.
