im brand new to this stuff and was hoping someone could answer some basic questions for me....

i have usually been the guy behind the mic involved in hiphop but since my friend and producer has left for japan, i wanted to do some music on my own....instead of doing the hiphop thang, im more inclined to the likes of the postal service, styrofoam, etc...

i was thinking of getting a new Mac G5, i was told that because it comes with garageband which is apparently like protools for dummies...

anyways, im curious what you recommend as a music program for beginners and what would be complementary to it, say like a synth? or maybe something else?

thanks so much for your help, it is much appreciated!

Garageband is not bad at all, but it is a kind of low end app.. but with fab features that in many ways shoots a lot of hardware sound modules and other types of gear out of the water completely. Initlially garageband had no escape hatch. Let us say you have 30 great songs but you obvioulsy cannot fully produce this into something original and pro without say pro Tools or Cubase. When Apple released Logc Express ad logic 7 you got option. These apps will import garageband projects and they also support the Apple loop format. if you want a lot of tools that are simple to use, go for Garageband. If you like this and think you can take this further, then you simply go toy your local Apple store and get Logic. the full Logic 7 is probaly one of the best buys in a DAW right one. You will also get an immense collection of plugins and great virtual instruments.

However, you might want to wait to the end of january until you make any decisions. apple will release some new gear soon, and chances are that you mit be interested in the new stuff. Prices will probably be nicer too.

Hi teenwolf, I like that one
welcome to electro-music.com
Elektro80 is right, Logic on the G5 is a killer (even the Express version)
