Modular G2 engine - SerialNr. ME10902

I can't install the USB driver on my Windows XP System.
The PC always hangs up. I checked this phenomenon on 2 different PC's with USB driver 2.14 and 2.16.
USB DriverVer=04/15/2009,2.1.6.0
USB DriverVer=11/10/2008,2.1.4.0

Than i did a installation on an old Laptop with Win98 and
the old USB driver 1.00 for Editor version 1.2 - and the installation works correct - also the editor and the USB transfer work correct.
USB DriverVer=11/12/2003,1.00.00.0000
But i can't install the new driver (v2.16) on Win98!
-> System hangs up too!

What can i do to install the USB driver correctly on my Win XP system without hanging up (stopping) the PC?

many thanks and best regards

1st have your usb driver by hand(disk or in a folder somewhere) then delete C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ClaviaUSB.sys

plug in your G2 again, find hardware, install hardware.
hope this works

Hi Roland,

I deleted all found Clavia*.* entries in registry.
Now the system did*nt hang up, but the new installation of driver 2.14
asked always for the ClaviaUSB.sys file...but this file exist in my selected
driver folder.....
Than i did a test -> and install the old nmg2usb driver. Now the
install routine also asked for the ClaviaUSB.sys file...so there must be
some more hiden entries in the registry or system which references to older Clavia USB intall routines.....

I sent also a question about driver installation to Clavia technical service
....but i got no answer till now Sad

best regards
Peter

Today is the future you were thinking about last year.
so last year the driver was working?
can you set your configuration back in time before things went wrong?

installing the usb driver should not be a big problem....as far as i know.
or there is a software conflict(did you remove everything?). somethimes virus scanners can be a pain in the a** when installing software. however, this was not a problem in my case. ark is a real digi nerd, so what is your reaction on this ark? please read this topic. im running vista without any problems with my nm s and g2.

if your system is 32 bits(vista), download and install version usb 32 bits 1.62
for 64 bits systems, download and install usb version 2.16, 64 bits

http://www.clavia.se/main.asp?tm=Downloads&cldwn=Nord_Modular_G2&osdwn=osw

and READ in this thread what Ark writes:

All,

For few days we have bought a Nord C2 combo organ. We have 30 days money back and I didn't want to get rid of the original box just in case ... and when I tried to install 'Nord USB Driver v2.16 32bit' on Windows XP SP3 everything freeze like you have described, when copying claviaUSB.sys file.I was worried and I have searched forums about this annoying issue and I have found you and your problems. None of the solutions described here sorted me out. I was on the foot to write to Nord and ask for a fix but I had this weekend...

Installing an USB driver should be a formality but not with MS Windows. I was started to look at 'Apple Laptops' since Apple supports Nord Keyboards by default!

I share the solution found and working in my case:
- note how many physical USB ports you have on your PC;
- restart Windoze in 'safe mode';
- plug in the usb cable connected to Clavia keyboard in one of the PC's USB ports and go trough all menus installing the new hardware found, specifying the driver file source 'Clavia.inf'; you shouldn't have here any issue installing it;
- after successful installation restart Windoze in 'normal mode' and plug in again the cable in the SAME USB port where you have installed the driver in 'safe mode';
- open Control Panel -> System->Hardware->Device Manager and here under 'Sounds, video ... controls' you must have your newly 'Clavia 32-bit USB driver';
- if is not there and your system freeze again do the all the above steps for another USB port; you must find at least one USB port available; (i.e on my laptop from 3 USB ports only 2 are working, it's obvious for the 3rd one it must be a conflict and Windoze freeze!)

Keep this in mind: Nord doesn't have any issues with their drivers, but Microsoft Corporation does with an absolute OS.

Hope it will work for you, too.
Kind Regards,
Stefan

Thank you Stefan! I tried just about everything and this was the only workaround that worked. I did try installing the drivers via safe mode, but for some reason I manually changed the USB port when I rebooted. Much appreciated.

...And BTW, the computer I'm working on is an Apple MacBook Pro, I just wanted to get it working on my bootcamp partition. During my numerous attempts to get the G2 to connect, I considered running OSX full-time, upgrading to Win 7, abstaining from music, Buddhism, etc...

Hi Jeswa,

I am glad to see someone happy and enjoying the instrument as suppose with the laptop, without headaches.

We can add in OS X into the same list as Windoze, no problem. I though that any Nord keyboard is natively supported by Apple OSes or at least I read somewhere in the specifications/manual about this.

So, have you downgraded it to Windoze 7 or still using OS X?

Kind Regards,
Stefan

I use XP most of the time, but I also use OS X. Haven't upgraded to Win 7 yet, though my Clavia USB driver troubles were making me want to.

Very Happy

Stefan many thanks for your idea....

Your method to install the USB driver was the only one to install my
Nord Modular on my PC system (Windows XP)!

Stefan's method:
*******************************************************
- note how many physical USB ports you have on your PC;
- restart Windows in 'safe mode';
- plug in the usb cable connected to Clavia keyboard in one of the PC's USB ports and go trough all menus installing the new hardware found, specifying the driver file source 'Clavia.inf'; you shouldn't have here any issue installing it;

- if is not there and your system freeze again do the all the above steps for another USB port; you must find at least one USB port available
*********************************************************

thanks sooooooooooooooo much Stefan Very Happy

Peter and everyone you are more then welcomed to use my method and enjoy the music.

At start, I didn't know how many others had the same problem.
Should I write to Nord to include this in their 'Troubleshooting' section of 'Clavia USB Driver Installation' Guide Shocked ?

Anyone tried the instructions below? http://www.nordkeyboards.com/downloads/OS/Clavia%20USB%20Driver%20v3.x%20Installation.pdf

Troubleshooting
The Driver Installer have been tested on as many OS flavours, language
versions and computer models that we could lay our hands on. If you
experience any issues with the installation, here are a few things that
you can try before you contact the support on the
www.nordkeyboards.com website.
• Make sure that no applications are running on the computer when
you run the installer, and that includes any virus applications and
other helper applications that are active in the background.
• Make sure that you are logged in to the computer with administrator
privileges.
• If connecting the Nord unit does not activate the driver, try another
(and perhaps shorter) USB cable.
• Connect the Nord unit directly to a USB port on the computer, and
not via a USB hub or by daisy-chaining it to a computer keyboard.
• If you get stuck, please document all error messages and/or unexpected
behaviors and file a support request on the Nord Keyboards
website.

Rgds,
Stefan

Just had to re-install my PC with Windows XP after it became increasingly cluttered over time. I reinstalled loads of drivers for my other kit, soundcard etc and they were fine but when I came to install Clavia.sys drivers my PC froze at the point when the folders are being transferred in the Device Manager. I successfully did a re-install of the Clavia USB driver in safe mode and it recognised it fine when I then rebooted normally. So all ok, but quite puzzling.
