Nord Rack 2: Layering doesn't work |
 |
|
Hello dear Nord Lead users,
recently I bought a used Nord Rack 2, and everything works fine so far, except for the Layering feature. If I want to have layered sounds, I can only do the following two things:
- select the same MIDI channel for every part
or
- use performance mode
But in normal mode, I can't use the layering feature as described in the manual. It is possible to press multiple part buttons, and they all will light up (with one of them blinking), but the layered sound won't be heard when I play with my keyboard. It will be played though if I press the "Trig" button!
What am I doing wrong here? |

The keyboard of the Lead is controlling all Slots that are lit. Non lit Slots don't sound. The Trig button is just an one key keyboard...
The Rack is only controlled by Midi. (Probably you noticed there is no keyboard on the synth ) When using a keyboard Midi controller (Midi keyboard or whatever it is called) you send only on one Midi channel, which is most likely Midi channel 1. Do you want to sound the other Slots too you have to set the Midi of the Slots to channel 1 too! And what... Even when the Solts are not active they will react to that Midi channel.
In Performance mode the setting of the Midi channel is mostly set to channel 1, so it works in there...
Reading the Manual please forget the lines about the 'leftmost active Slot' This is only on the NordRack(1). Using this Rack by making a Slot active it will react to the Midi channel of the leftmost active Slot, but Clavia changed this when releasing the NordRack2 and 2X.

Thanks for the answer!
So the Rack version simply doesn't support that mode, and the manual is wrong as well? I wonder why they left the possibility of pressing multiple slots in the Rack OS then...
Of course it's not the most important feature, I can live without it, but there are situations where this would be still nice to have (without having to change MIDI channels and so on). |

Mostly it takes an extra setting of the synth, after finding out what is happening. | Quote: | | Of course it's not the most important feature, I can live without it, but there are situations where this would be still nice to have (without having to change MIDI channels and so on). | See also http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/020_NordLead2/Proof_reading/LeftMost_Midi.htm
